thats nonsense mate, he is the first manager that has had a proper look at that liverpool side and know that if you dent them space behind to counter attack they really are not all that, he worked them out and has set the blueprint, that should have been set by some very well paid managers, including our own, long before this game
nono, im not just talking about this game.
Im talking about this general tactic, that gets praised after games like this.
Liverpool this season are not the greatest team in the world ever, it shouldnt need defensive tactics to that level if you are a good team yourselves. I don't personally agree with it, and don't think its worthy of being called a tactic let alone being called a masterclass.
On this team in particular, if your only answer to them is to sit extremely deep to the level of, as I said, a non-league team playing at Goodison then I think you are not doing anything exceptional as a coach and your players become functional parts of a simple system and not much more.
To put it simply, I think putting 9 and sometimes 10 in the last third basically makes total common sense and it should always make it difficult to score whatever level your team is at because simply there is no space and if one defender doesnt get a foot in or a block another is always there. I don't think it is a masterclass, or takes great coaching to take a billion-pound team and use this "tactic" to win games.
I absolutely loved it today though!
