Present day Newcastle are one of the ill effects of the Premier league and Sky.

Under Keegan they had 20 mins of fame and feted by Richard Keys and Andy Gray as bright new things the locals flocked in, ignoring hot water and soap is no obstacle to getting on telly with your belly hanging out.

Previously crowds of only 7k turned up when the cameras weren't interested but the attraction of gurning on live TV and singing about a defunct race meeting can't be under estimated in the frozen tundra of Scotland south.
