if you count a corner being from open play, yeah, as barry rolled around on lukaku

He only got that one because he bottled out of taking the corner to avoid the inevitable abuse he would have got. Typical Everton to then proceed to let him score.

i'm an rs fan, but being honest, we really can't say anything with 12 games still to go, we could easily win/lose our next 2 games as could you, chelsea are inconsistent as are city lately, and spurs are winning more, and Arsenal, well they're looking pretty crap now. I personally think this will be the table at the end of the season.

1. Chelsea
2. Liverpool/city
3. Liverpool/city
4. Spurs/Everton/Le Arse

Good luck though, nothing like some intercity rivalry :P

"If not more so" -- what the [Poor language removed] does that mean? So whoever scores most goals is the most deserving of winning the league???

PS how many goals has Gerrard scored excluding the numerous penalties?

1. Having the two top scorers in the league: Suarez (23) and Sturridge (16).
2. Spanking us, Arsenal and Spurs as well as beating United.
3. Playing football that is as attractive as anyone.
4. They did spend some money in the summer but only really Mignolet (£9.3m) has gone directly into the team. Chelsea spent £31m on Willian, £22m on Matic, £19.3m on Schurlle and £11.6m on Salah. City bought in Fernandinho, Negredo, Navas and Jovetic for a combined £97.6m. Arsenal spent £44m on Ozil. Spurs reinvested the £100m from the sale of Bale. And United ploughed close to £40m into signing Mata.

PS Gerrard has two goals from open play by my reckoning but what difference does that make?

they've long balled and set pieced their way to those wins, at a high intensity. but far removed from the purist traits the media would have you believe

Liverpool have spent £130m (give or take) in the past three seasons.

They really haven't; they've played a direct counter attacking game. There is a big difference from hoofing a ball in hope, to playing a ball in-between a centre back and a full back to enable a quick counter

It makes a difference because you were comparing favourably Gerrard's scoring prowess with Eto's.

On another point, in your response you list all of Chelsea's summer purchases but only the RS player who "has gone directly into the team" - not a fair comparison would you agree? In any event it's an arbitrary starting point to tot the respective expenditures from.

I don't have a problem with them sitting deep and counter-attacking teams. In fact I think that their speedy break aways are more exciting to watch than Arsenal's tika taka or the Eden Hazard show.

They sit far deeper than an attractive counter attacking team, the do press at a high intensity but they only do it in their own half, unlike a dortmund a couple of seasons ago, because they do not have the quality in midfield to do otherwise, so they need to draw a high line from the oppo, hence why their big results came against possesion teams like us, spurs and arsenal. It's brutal but for me not all that attractive, they have good technical quality at the high end of the pitch and are very effective from set pieces, but its a long way removed from a really attractive team to watch, that cant marry that high intensity with technical skill all over the park, like germany, arsene wenger's first arsenal team, or even munich

Everton are playing the same football as Liverpool did last year, (but we play it better)

Liverpool have changed there ways to quick counter when the possession sides (like us and Arsenal) try play them we get sucka punched. its exciting to watch, for a red or a neutral.

i think they will finish 3rd.
