Shohei Ohtani has agreed to defer $680m (£541m) of his $700m (£557m) deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to multiple US sources including the MLB, external.

Ohtani joined the Dodgers on a 10-year contract - in the biggest deal in the sport's history - after his contract with the Los Angeles Angels expired.

He has agreed to take home $2m (£1.6m) per year until 2034 when he will be paid $68m (£54m) per year until 2043.

On some money these rounders players, insane amounts.

Definitely. It's worth noting that he is an absolutely generational (or multi-generational) talent, too. Though I have only started watching baseball recently!

Strange isn’t it. Never been interested in it. Has the same appeal as hockey or lacrosse

Even though it isn’t as popular as it was a generation or two ago, the sport is still an incredible cash cow, and the contracts reflect that. Every team plays 81 home games a season. Even if they don’t sell out, that’s a ton of revenue. Especially considering most tickets are at bare minimum $50 a game on the absolute low end.

That's about £45, and initially I though a bit steep. But then don't games last about 6 hours a piece? So there's plenty of time to work through one of them buckets of beer they serve. How much are the super sized beers now? Worth the money being able to drink in view of the action. Draconian measures here, you can get on the booze and watch anything except football in this backwards ass hell hole.
