My take on it is that VAR officials are now petrified of clearly making a wrong decision, so they take an age to make a decision what should take seconds.

Not on this occasion at all, however, they still regularly make mistakes or decisions that simply are dubious in terms of the game we once knew and loved.

Set a thirty-second timer (maximum), and if you can't make a decision in that time, then keep the on field one that was made in a fraction of a second.

From recollection and my understanding of the current rules, linesman are told to keep their flag down until the ball is clearly out of play or there's a goal.

The days of a linesman looking and going, "Yeah, that's off," and up goes the flag are gone. It gives them the chance to get it wrong, and let VAR take over.
