You know what, he looks the perfect modern day Everton player still. He can't run, he's not athletic, has no burst of pace, can't beat a man, is physically weak but once in a blue moon will score a decent goal to pad out the stats.

I'll never forget when he signed and I saw a lot of Everton-leaning people glowingly posting about him and his stats (13-ish goals and 8 or 9 assists per season in a league where the top players, even in midfield, tend to do way better than that) and thinking, "Has anybody ever actually watched this guy?" because in the few times I did before that point, he'd never once looked like he had anything more about him than "guy who could have a decent enough career being a supporting player on a good team, or the main man on a really really bad team, in his own domestic league." Van de Beek looked like Zidane compared to him.

First time I watched him was his last game for Ajax against Utd (was it a semi or final in Europa League?) He didn't get involved at all.

I thought that must have been an off game but nope, it was the perfect example of what he offers
