They avoided any elite (or good) teams until the final. Madrid, Bayern, Juventus, Barca & PSG. By far and away the best teams in European football. They lose to all of them, quite heavily. In most seasons they face them either in the round of 16 or at latest round of 8. Lucky draw which to be fair they took advantage of, then capitulated when they were left facing the 4th best side out of that list.

Yes, and the CL three times in a row.

Very similar to England's world cup run with the exception of having to play a top team in the groups.
