Look at some of the stuff on there, just madness. A game of footy ffs and these mongs feel like they have something to prove by attacking random people in the street.

Don't want to tarnish every Russian fan with the same brush but with their history of violence and racist abuse the only possible reason to hold a world cup in that country is pure corruption.
It's the biggest European country, not to have hosted a World Cup before, so why not?

My only hope is the Russian authorities really crack down to make sure everyone is on their best behaviour because the whole world is watching

I know this can come across as very western politically, but I do think it's fair.

Every other country with a checkered past in the 20th century has came full circle and corrected itself.

Japan had been contributing member of the world for 40 years.

Germany had adopted more liberalism, and diversity, and was celebrating its reunification.

South Africa had abandoned apartheid, and despite it's short comings in this area, as their are everywhere, they are working to become better. It was always a nice story to give these countries this event, if you want to call it that, because studies show that host countries and cities don't usually win economically now days.

However, besides what has become a widely recognized issue among football fans. That the Russians are now the biggest hooligans, they are racist, they fight with other fans. Their behavior in France at the Euro's was awful. They subvert UN sanctions with Korea, they invade Crimea and meddle in Ukraine. They systemically oppress homosexuals, minorities, and dissidents. The feudal structure of the state of Chechnya, and the general safety risks presented by that, as well as the terrorism threat that region presents. The horrible job they did with Sochi, be it the cheating or the infrastructure required to host an event of that size and scope.

The list of reasons for Russia to not host a World Cup is very long. To ask why not is to either be contrarian or just to stick your head in the sand.

the violence over there won’t be anywhere near as bad as people want to believe it will be . The Russian government will make sure of that .

I agree, their was no violence at the Olympics, even though this type of sporting event is more likely to elicit that.

I never said there'd be violence, but rather was answering why their shouldn't be a World Cup in Russia. And I think it's quite a fair response. I don't really think it's people want to believe it will be that bad, it's just a country that shouldn't be holding a World Cup and has a poor history in many regards.

People complained about South Africa and especially Brazil, about crime rates, how you'd get robbed and what not. Yet no one had a problem with the actual government, or their fans behavior, it was just side effects of poverty. Russia is a whole other set of circumstances.

i disagree on that I believe the press build up the hooligan hype before every major tournament and people get excited and actually look forward to the live footage when it does actually kick off ( France 98 Euro 2000 Germany 06 France 16 being some examples) and it’s not necessarily hooligans who look forward to it just people who are bored and like a bit of drama .

You're kind of missing the rest of my post. But if we must be transfixed on Hooliganism, perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but why bring up the Euro's? I was 4,000 miles away so my information could be way off, but weren't the Russians largely the ones causing trouble?

I’m not missing your point or looking to be arguementative either . In the euros of 92 , 96 , 2000 and 2004 the Russians weren’t the issue no . The last euros and 2012 in Ukraine and Poland are the first big Russian problem at tournaments .

Why not bring up the euros anyway mate? It’s a major international tournament isn’t it ?

Russia hosting an event should be fine if it’s ok for Qatar and South Africa to do so . I’d rather a bit of violence than slave labour workers dying daily in the Qatar heat . I know what’s worse

I understand it what you are saying at the end about Qatar, however, I will say geopolitically Qatar has maintained peace in a relatively contentious region. The slave labor is totally a fair point, and I know Brazil had its fair share of labor issues when it came to building the infrastructure for the tournament.

I only meant I wasn't sure why you brought up the Euros because I felt like you were making my point for me, rather than defending the Russians. Which I don't want to caste you as, I just mean I used them as a point of why not to have them, and a legitimate one. But I can completely see your point being correct, where hooliganism won't be an issue in Russia. They'll be very self conscious, and then everyone not from Russia, they won't want to mess up their. Unless you're LiAngelo Ball, he might not have an issue with that. He's a bum, I'm not sure of his world wide recognition but if you're interested enough you can google him, or ask.

I know all about the ball family mate lol they live in a different world that lot .

So all your arguments seem to be of political reasons? I agree, Putin has been known of doing shady things, such as invading Crimea, meddling in Ukraine, backing North Korea, helping Assad, but why is this any different to what USA have been doing? Illegally invading Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, supporting Israeli aggression against Palestine? No country is perfect and every country has flaws. It's funny you are calling Russians racist, which is firstly false and a generalization, but ironically your country USA, voted in Trump, who is a racist president. Sure, I would never judge anyone based off their country's leader. Italian racism in football is on par with Russians, if not worse.

Regarding Russian fans being violent, which is probably true, but you do realise most incidents take place outside of Russia, right? Like yesterday in Bilbao or incident in Marseille. There have been European games in Russia this season, with zero trouble. So, this blame is rather the incompetence of authorities in Spain, France, rather than anything to do with Russia.
