Thing is, I actually think you've got a decent squad there but O'Neill seems to have them so bloody rigid and seems to like to pick yard dogs.

I hope you qualify, I think you will as well but I reckon you could have qualified there as I think there's some real good players within that squad if used correctly.

it was just a tough group with two teams better than them. simple as that. these poles put 4 past the germans and germany are world champs.

We were much better when Hoolahan came on. And Brady was excellent against Germany when used further forward. I like O'Neill but I don't think he has enough belief in the ability of some of his players, and this is shown by the tactics he uses.

Well, at least England will be at the Euros to embarrass themselves next year. Ace!

In fact, I reckon Wales will get further than England.

Shame Ireland unlikely to qualify now, too many good teams there.

Jonathan Walters just ain't the talisman you want to be firing you to the Euros.

yep, walters' career pales in significance compared to robson-kanu.

No doubt about it mate, tough group but I still think Ireland could have qualified outright at the expense of either Germany or Poland.

Hope they do it through the playoffs though and get a favourable draw.

Spot on EW, the tactics are based upon his beliefs and faith he has in the squad. Brady was awful tonight but he's not an awful player, he's a cracking left winger and far better than McClean who is an absolute yard dog and too old fashioned. There's Walters in there for that kind of graft and you don't want too many like that or better put, you don't need too many. Hoolahan is a very tidy footballer who can pick a pass. If Gibson could stay fit between meals he's ideal to get in there and get rid of Whelan who should be cleaning cars in a petrol station somewhere near Stoke.

Lots of good players with a bit of flair about them, he just needs to use them in the right way.

Coleman was class though wasn't he, 3 goal saving blocks tonight - stuck his balls and his legs on the line. Top Man.

France as hosts

A
Iceland, Czech Republic

Either Turkey or Netherlands (Turkey need a draw to qualify, Netherlands need a win and Turkey to lose)

B
Belgium, Wales

Bosnia and H or Israel or Cyprus 3rd

C
Spain, Slovakia (assuming they win away to Luxembourg)

Ukraine - need to better Slovakia's result

D
Germany, Poland

Ireland in play offs

E
England, Switzerland

Slovenia (almost mathematically certain)

F
Northern Ireland, Romania

Hungary (currently top ranked 3rd team)

G
Austria, Russia (barring defeat by Montenegro and Sweden to win)

Sweden (or Russia)

H
Italy, Norway or Croatia

Croatia or Norway

Croatia will qualify if they win away to Malta and Norway fail to win away to Italy

I
Portugal, Albania

Denmark

Hungary are presently the highest ranking 3rd place team - this can change depending on results and which teams results are discounted (bottom in 6 team groups)

Yeah McCarthy and Whelan should not be in the same team, it has to be one or the other. No one has worked harder than Walters in these last 2 games but as you say you can't have too many of the same type of players. It's about getting the balance right.

He's desperate to play. Shouldn't be denied the chance to help get his country to the Euros.

.....that attitude is first class but EFC pay his wages and are responsible for his longer term welfare. Having being deemed unfit to play for his club in a number of lead up games I don't think he should've been in that squad and spent many hours travelling. I'd be saying this regardless of the country he represents.
