So Townsend Junior now hopes he's silenced the critics.

After one jammy strike...really.

Every competitor for his position even ones with long term injuries this season have scored more goals from open play, provided more assists and tellingly found less blind blooming alleys than you.

Even your own fans, granted they are notoriously fickle, think you're crap. Shame you can't see beyond the end of your adopted dad's big honker.

What is it with people love for slagging off players. He came on, scored a good goal and did well, just as he has done previously for England. He makes a comment about hoping to silence the critics and he gets completely ott responses like this.

Football fans, sigh

Just think players should think before speaking.

The kids done nothing this season to justify doing anything but getting his head down and working hard.

Its going to be a lot harder to "silence" said critics when those wonder shots go back to hitting row Z and you can hear the spurs fans groans from Ashburton grove.

yeah and weren't england ranked 4th about a year ago? the rankings are a tosh barameter tbh, if you can name me one player who's ever played for cape verde without looking it up i'd be surprised.
US was top 5 back in 2009 after we lost in the Confed cup final to brazil

Yep, it is embarrassing, no doubt about it. The best Cape Verdean player plays for Portugal ffs.

That said, they are a decent side these days - pretty much all of their players play at a decent level in Europe, and they got to the quarter finals of the ACN recently. Portugal also fielded one of their weakest XI in recent years. The players that started the EQ against Serbia at the weekend were our oldest starting lineup ever (Ricardo Carvalho, Bosingwa and Tiago ffs), and it is proving very difficult to replace those players. This is despite us doing quite well at U-21 and U-20 level.

We're a decent footballing country who occasionally produce an excellent crop of players, I think we're about to enter another phase of being no more than "decent".

TL;DR: Portugal are [Poor language removed].

Funding their ground, Fat Sam bringing in hasbeens on huge wages, lots of empty seats.

Even so. Maybe it is me, but it seems ages ago that Sam was there, and cant even remember them doing a new ground, like The Reebok, (or whatever it is called now), was done ages ago I thought.

What a mess though.
