He's a long way out from goal. But equally the nearest defender is miles away from the play so very hard to argue he would have got back to stop a goalscoring opportunity.

I suppose the rule is denial of a goalscoring opportunity. Not necessarily denial of a likely goal. And I think it's definitely at least an opportunity to score if there is no foul.

Another question is what did the ref not see live compared to on VAR - I mean he has given the foul and the yellow, its obvious where they were on the pitch and there wasn't anyone else from Arsenal near them.

I think the red is the right decision in the end, but that strongly looked like an instance where the ref was told to change his decision.

Sky just shown an aerial view. Think you could argue that White would/could have got a block or tackle in. He’s certainly quick enough to have covered back. Very subjective that far out and I think Arsenal will win an appeal
