I'm sure @Kurt. is on board with this
Interesting the Welsh want rid of their name in English.
During the summer I have noticed that in athletics and cycling events, several countries such as Germany Belgium Sweden and Norway use the English version of their countries name rather than the one in their own language.

Sound. Heard that one earlier tbf, was just trying to help Big Oil out.

Either way, I struggle to see Cardiff and Swansea fans saying they support Cymru instead of Wales.
Cardiff most cerainly but Swansea and Carmarthenshire is much more welsh speaking.

The South of Wales is hardly welsh speaking, in my experience. Using Cymru just sounds and feels contrived to me. I bet, if they do change the official name of the team, nearly everyone will still sing their songs in English, (anthem aside, obvs), and always refer to themselves as supporters of Wales/Welsh.

Probably wouldn't see many people calling Ireland "Eire" either at this point but they can be called what they like I suppose. They'll get a lot of "who?" from most English speakers I'd bet. Their choice though.

The only people who call us Éire are English people trying too hard to ingratiate themselves with us or those who wanted to insult us prior to 1998 (by refusing to refer to us as "Ireland"). You certainly don't hear it in Ireland to any great extent. Yes, it's on stamps, EU name plates, and incorporated into company names, etc., but the country is generally referred to as "Ireland" in everyday speech. Unless you are in Dublin. Then it is "Oirland".
