I've seen McCarthy interviewed about this in the past

Apparently his views is that they weren't even supposed to do that much training in Saipan anyway. He was taking them there to decompress for a few days after a tough season and then the proper training would start at their World Cup base camp, which apparently had much better facilities

Keane and McCarthy just didn't get on and this was the excuse they needed to have it out I think
