I think they've only got so much control over how strong the PL clubs are. The money from the PL is much more than anyone save PSG, Madrid, Bayern and Barcelona can compete with. They really should be the best most the time. The CL can't really fix that.

If that was the case it would be the same at all level of euro comps though. It’s not. West Ham or Leicester would get a very decent game against their counterparts from Spain Italy or Germany, despite having prem money. The top teams in England though are decimating their European rivals now.

West Ham's rivals are Sevilla who they beat? I'm not sure I know what you mean.

Close game though.

City
RS
Chelsea

On a different level to every euro side bar Real Madrid and PSG.

UEFA fault for trying to stifle competition with FFP.

If every club could be owned by a multi billionaire spending whatever they wanted you wouldn't have the big teams stockpiling quality.

Yeah FFP was clearly meant to stifle up and comers and allow the big clubs to maintain the status quo. And it'll work for that, part of why some of the clubs fell off is the pandemic which is over for the most part. The Spanish clubs will be back.

And that was seen as a miracle win, a historic night for West Ham because it hardly ever happens for them.

Now we have a situation where City Chelsea or Liverpool would be shocked to go out to any continental side except maybe PSG. Chelsea should have destroyed Madrid last night on their own patch and they’re probably the best the continent has to offer at the moment.

I think in 5 years time that'll look less of a miracle and more of an everyday occurrence. West Ham are a CL team in every other league. That gap isn't shrinking. We're not far from the 8th best PL team being the second best team in Germany.

I mostly agree but even if every club had a money pump, some clubs will always be at the top

Like Barcelona and Real are the dream of every South American kid so they'll always have players itching to join them

And clubs based in London/ Milan/ Madrid etc will always have some advantage over teams from smaller less famous cities
