Can someone please explain the booing of Harry Maguire? I have googled all over the place. How can fans boo one of their own players before the match has even started?
Never been to a game in Philly, New York or Boston, have you? You're bad, you get booed. You're unlikable, you get booed. You're Santa Claus, you get booed.
I'll come right out and say it: the people in the stadium exchanged their money for the opportunity to be there. If they want to express their non-racist/sexist/etc. opinions, that's part of the deal. If you're a player and you can't hack that, you're in the wrong job. It's part of the price of being an entertainer, or other individual in the public eye. You get put on a pedestal, you get judged. If you're found wanting, you're going to hear about it.
When I hear people like Southgate, Henderson and Kane taking this stance, it tells me how deep their contempt for us goes. It tells me that they think that a fan's job is to pay money to sit there like a good little boy or girl and support them unconditionally. It tells me that they think that they're entitled to our unconditional love, but that they're not under the reverse obligation. If they want to have that kind of relationship with us, they could try building it rather than whine about how we're not giving them their due. It has worked for athletes and entertainers in the past.
