To be honest I'm okay with the English commentators rooting for the English team, provided they do it for every English team and not just selected ones

I enjoy watching classic European games from the 80's where colour commentators like Brian Clough and David Pleat are referring to teams like Everton as "Us" and "We". Clough is outright cheering us on in that CWC Final

Back then it was accepted that you wanted the other English teams to win

Of course it probably helped that most of the squads were a combination of British and Irish players
