I think the refs are getting worse, just give any decision now and let VAR sort it

I don’t see that as a negative necessarily. In American football the referees are trained to let a close play continue on until it ends and then go to VAR if asked. If you blow the whistle too early then the rest of the play is null and void.

Maybe here they train the referees to blow the whistle because it might be another 5 minutes before the next stoppage in play where they could check, and you don’t want to nullify all that play.
