There's that group of tiny teams that everyone batters: San Marino, Andorra etc. but are teams like Ireland really much better?

I'd say San Marino and Gibraltar are easily the worst sides. But the rest are half-decent. Teams like Malta, Luxembourg, Cyprus can be potential banana-skins for many bigger sides.

Its very tough changing a style of play at international level and it looks like that's what Kenny is trying to do. Whether that's a good idea at international level I'm not sure. You probably need to play to the players strengths.

But sometimes you have to have a really bad loss before you can start to move forward. I'm a northern ireland supporter and we lost in Luxembourg in the 2014 qualifiers under Michael O Neill. Lots were calling for him to be sacked and he was under enormous pressure, but we went on a great run after that game and ended up in the knockout rounds of a major tournament.

Its a weird game football and things can change quickly. You only need someone to go on a good 6 or 7 game run of scoring to pick up a lot of results in international football.

I actually feel sorry for Stephen Kenny. There are almost no quality players available to him playing in England. instead he tries to make something out of a sow's ear.

He would get more unity and belief out of playing 6 or 7 top LOI players along with Seamus and a few others from the English leagues.

Its the lack of a goalscorer really. Its the same for so many countries at the minute. You can be as good on the ball as you like but every team needs someone to stick the ball in the net. A Robbie Keane, a David Healy, whoever it may be

I have no idea if Stephen Kenny is a good manager but to me you have to give managers longer at international level because you only get to work with players 4 or 5 weeks a year
