Ours yesterday (and Palace's vs united) were handballs and would have been last year - they looked deliberate, with the defender facing the opponent and with their hand going to the ball (rather than the ball striking the hand). Obviously they were from really close range, and the defender probably automatically tried to block it, but the effect was the same.

This wasn't, and shouldn't have been given - Dier's back was turned and he was completely unaware of it. It was not a penalty even under the current rules, just as the RS one wasn't.

No mate, neither of Joel Ward's handballs yesterday should have been given as a penalty.

Neither should Lindelof's.

Neither should Dier's.

But they all have been so that is now the precedent for the season.

For me if you’re going to give pens on soft handballs like that it HAS to be blocking a shot on goal - awarding a pen for touching a nowhere header like that is unbelievable

The rules committee are not due to meet again until March apparently.

Once one or two were given early on this season there's now a precedent and refs have zero power with this.

Needs a similar decision to happen against liverpool, preferably in favour of us or Man City, and the media backlash will see the rule changed again...

If the player shows intent to block it or it's in an unnatural position e.g Deli Ali vs us then it's handball, That's what I would change it to.
