How do sides like Palace and Newcastle that are utter toilet go get away wins at top 6 teams and Everton absolutely cannot do that
I think there are two reasons for this phenomenon:
1) Everton is a 'big enough' opponent such that teams are on their mettle when they play us. Our capacity to 'do an ambush' is thus less likely (compared to the [perceived] less estimable likes of Palace, Newcastle etc)

2)
Everton folds like a cheap tent at the merest whiff of pressure/expectation: a team of small heart, jelly spine, and massive underbelly. They excel at disappointing us supporters...'Everton that'. It used to do my head in, but nowadays, I'm just dispassionately 'meh' about the whole thing. Change of owners, managers, personnel etc, have no effect... Everton is the embodiment of the adage 'the more things change, the more they stay the same'...

It's very disheartening...up to the point where you just shrug...

City haven’t really done that have they?

I don’t know. Stones was a record fee for a teenager at the time and was fairly close to the world record for a centreback then before Van Dijk. Similar for Ederson, think he was almost the same world record fee as Buffon again before Liverpool skewed the market. I’m not sure if either Walker Mendy or Cancelo broke the fee for a full back.

They’ve spent very smartly in other areas and it’s not been as gross as Liverpool’s buys of VVD and Alisson. But the truth remains that both sides think nothing of just chucking 40 mill plus purchases at any problem position they have. Only United our or the rest of the league can do that but they’ve bought very badly.

I was thinking as much bad luck as our own issues, like yesterday De Gea fumbles a shot into his own net to give Palace all three points but every time Everton show up to Old Trafford he has the game of his life, that kind of thing
in fairness normally he's annoyingly good against us and we have no luck against manyoo (hence us not winning in the league there since 1989). This was a once in a couple of decades perfect storm

"The likes of Palace". :coffee:
Last to win at Man City, Man Utd, RS, and Arse. Won 3 times at the RS in the last five visits. Won twice at Chelsea in the last five visits.
Utter toilet they are.

Even more absurd a team one sale away from the drop has done all that and Everton can’t scrape a win at any of those places.

I am astounded by Everton's horrible run and it will end this season. There. Said it.
I can't agree with you that if we sell Wayne Hennesey we will go down.
