Time Wasting

He was alright mate. There were no penalty shouts, no dodgy free kicks, he allowed them to waste time but correctly added the majority of it back on in time added on. He was fine.

If you thought that his performance was alright I'm afraid you watched a different game than me. I'm not suggesting he lost us the game, or that Palace didn't deserve to win on the night, but if you think Marriners performance was OK then football has lost all integrity. He gave free kicks for challenges that were a lot less of an issue than ones he gave nothing for, he allowed grotesque time-wasting and brinksmanship and he never once got a grip of the game. Palace didn't need to resort to spells of the 'old' Pulis when they play so well under the 'new' Pulis.

The ref was a joke again not the first time and all the time wasting got everybody in the ground frustrated he was giving free kicks for next to nothing I'm not bitter but Carnt stand these refs should be fun sunday.

There was major time wasting but we did get six minutes added which was fair. You can't expect the referee to add 10 mins for that last night. Maybe it was a minute or so too little, but it was a fair amount, so he did his job alright in the end in as much as despite 'allowing' them to time waste during the 90 mins he added the correct amount of time on at the end. We were just poor and outperformed.

Speroni's 'injury': 2.5 mins
Defenders cramp: 2 mins
Nose injury ( Bolasie?): 2.5 mins
6 substitutions: 3 mins
Speroni time wasting: 6 mins

None of that exaggerated in terms of length of time - not far off 20% of the game.....and we got 6 mins added on. I'd agree that was major time- wasting! But I'd disagree the time added was 'fair'.....I'm glad we don't serve that up to paying customers every week. I always thought football was about 90 minutes entertainment.

hes always been woeful. i like Dowd at Goodison, takes no sh*t Palace would of not time wasted, because after 26 mins (when they started) he would of told the keeper. hurry up or get booked.

They were particularly bad last night, the way they stayed down for ages for a tiny knock really hampered our game and we lost momentum a few times when it looked like we would score.

Anyone equating their timewasting to normal timewasting, or our own, either didn't see the game or didn't have their glasses on.

As soon as they went 1 up they were timewasting. Well before half time -- in the first half ffs -- they were taking ludicrously long for every goal kick, they were cocking around with throw-ins. As soon as we scored their keeper went down injured for ages -- unsurprisingly there proved to be nothing wrong with him. Then another one of their players went down, again, nothing wrong. Near the end they had a corner, and not only did no one go up for it, but no one even went to receive it from the corner taker. The ref had to usher someone towards the flag to receive it.

The thing is, I don't blame them. We know what Pulis sides do. They bend and push every law and get away with whatever they can, to make up that extra 2 or 3%. It's up to the ref to control it. One yellow for timewasting early on, and that would have stopped it, but he was a gormless buffoon all game. Just nonchalantly ignoring the timewasting and the howls of the crowd.

And even after a booking the goalkeepers keep timewasting, because no ref has the balls to send them off. I'd love to see a goalkeeper sent off for timewasting, how boss would that be.

The odd thing about him last night was on Palace's first goal kick, the keeper had hardly put the ball down and Marriner was gesturing for him to hurry it up. Yet from then on in, the keeper took twice as long yet Marriner did absolutely nothing, in most cases he turned his back and wasn't even watching.

Were as I don't trust the integrity of idiots like Clattenburg and Atkinson, I put Marriner alongside the likes of Lee Mason in that they don't seem to understand the game at all and they don't even gain control of match in the first place, nevermind lose it.

Plus what the referee deems reasonable for percieved timewasting - 2 mins

4 mins added time.

Team wasting time go behind.

2 mins added time goes on the board.

Not rocket science is it?

Yes, but as things stand those apply to both teams combined. Under your method, the time wasted by each side would need to be kept separate and applied in different circumstances.
I'm not against your idea in principle, but it just complicates things. They don't seem to get it right now, do they?

I've just been watching an A League match in which 3 minutes extra time came up. The ref blew at 7+ minutes

I didn't see anything that might explain that - there was 1 substitution. Do you see what I mean? You and me mightn't think it's difficult Jacko, but they clearly struggle with it.

How could we add a new dimension to it and expect them to get it right?
