Time Wasting

Everyone does but the ref needs to look at it. When Howard has done it, he gets booked, so not sure why Speroni did not get booked.

Palace took their time on each throwing, and the ref did nothing.

Mairrner had a poor game.

Literally every team do the same when they are leading. We only got ourselves to blame yesterday.

Yeah, but how long do you think play was stopped for with the two incidents involving the medical team, plus 5 goals and 5 in-game subsititutions?

Plus, it's less to do with the physically wasted time and more to do with how time wasting breaks up the game and stops the other team from being able to build momentum. It's a form of cheating, by gaining an unfair advantage.
Its 100% fair unless its excessive. 30-seconds for a throw-in, another half a minute for a meaningless fk, and 1 min for a meaningful one seems to be "sensible" time wasting which the ref won't blink an eye.

Just like I always advocate aiming for the unpadded shin if you need to DOGSO, (basically you should make sure the opponent won't play for at least a few weeks, so you are inflicting damage worthy of 2 red cards for the cost of 1) and going down for minimal contact (but not without - that's diving), time wasting, like using every single rule loophole, is always a legit tactic.

Unless the rules mandates that the ball has to be thrown within so much time, or the keeper can be booked for not immediately picking up the ball, all these plays are legit.

p.s. If that is the case I would also amend the rules to state that a player is in control of the ball only if he uses his leg or tries to on the ball - otherwise a player can tackle from the back after 2 seconds without being penalized.

Dermot Gallgher has been calling for years to have basketball style timings for games.

35 minutes each half and stop the clock every time the ball goes out of play.

Everyone can see exactly how long is left then.
Would love to see how long the ball is actually in play. Wouldn't be surprised if it was something ridiculous like 60%.

I didn't think Palace overdid it - close to the bone but not too much. But the rules definitely need amending as timewasting kills the game as a spectacle. This playing the ball into the corner is one of the worst and when teams get corners late on as well. If all players were forced to be 10 yards away for a corner - including team-mates - then half of this crap wouldn't happen.

There was major time wasting but we did get six minutes added which was fair. You can't expect the referee to add 10 mins for that last night. Maybe it was a minute or so too little, but it was a fair amount, so he did his job alright in the end in as much as despite 'allowing' them to time waste during the 90 mins he added the correct amount of time on at the end. We were just poor and outperformed.

wasnt fair mate, the keeper was down for about 4 mins, the guy with the bloody nose was down for 3 mins, thats 7, not even including, the keeper timewasting. subs and goals. not fair at all mate.

He was alright mate. There were no penalty shouts, no dodgy free kicks, he allowed them to waste time but correctly added the majority of it back on in time added on. He was fine.

was you at the game, that ref is a disgrace, always has been always will be.

There were 6 mins of stoppage time.....

there should of been 7 mins injuries
also 6 subs 3 mins.
4 goals 2 mins.

It's an ugly part of the game just like diving. But it's prevalent in every team and it's not going anywhere. Just have to get used to it.

Doesn't matter who the ref is, we're drawing or losing at Goodison and the oppo's goalie takes their time and the ref never does anything. As soon as we take the lead and Howard does it they gesture for him to get on with it. Every time it happens.

he is not only an FA official but a FIFA referee, and to get there, he has been assessed by professionals with far more credentials than you.

It doesn't mean Marriner doesn't make mistakes, but he definitely didn't have a bad game. You just come off as bitter whinging about the referee.

The stoppage just after we made it 2-1 was a bit of a killer. It prevented the momentum going forward. I mean if someone dives pulis is all over it, and you get all the "foreigners bringing diving over to England crap".

Well deliberate time wasting is still not sporting. And the two worst culprits are allardyce and pulis. Both English. But it doesn't involve foreigners so the media don't really mention it.

Fair play to Pulis and Palace though, they out muscled us and were tactically spot on.

Pulis is Welsh.
