Time flies when you having fun. Cetainly a bit of truth in that one. Three years ago on this date, I decided to register at a forum called GrandOldTeam. Being a kipper for quite a few years, I got fed up with the constant name-calling, abusive behaviour and internet warriors that frequented the place. No doubt, it was a great place to be in the beginning, but the mods on there never took a stance against the morons who brought the place down. I’ve seen quite a few good posters leave over the course of years I spend on there.
Don’t remember who it was on Kipper, who brought my attention to a forum called GrandOldTeam.com, but I remember it was during the European Championship and we were linked with Dutch international Orlando Engelaar. There was someone who mentioned Gazdalf (mate, where are you?) as an in the known person . no bull****ter and desperate for some inside information, I decided to take a peak (don’t remember if it actually was related to the Engelaar rumour, or something else).
For the first 2-3 weeks it was lurking only, but couldn’t help to notice the friendly nature at the place. So, after those first few weeks of lurking, I decided to register. The welcome I got was quite warming, i’ve got to say. At the same time Kipper was starting to show quite a few browser problems and eventually went down altogether. Noticed that the regulars at this place didn’t exactly have a high opinion of the average Kipperite. Can remember during a conspiracy thread regarding the Titanic (Who seemingly never sunk), I made probably the most stupist remark of my time at GOT. “To all Kippers who are interested, the forum is back online.” Got a bit of a telling off by Reidy, and quite rightly so. Went back to Kipper, registered on there also, but it wasn’t the same. When GOT touches you heart, nothing will ever be the same”, you know
So decided to make GOT my new internet home, as the members on here, were friendlier, more welcoming and down to earth than Kipper (in all reality) ever was. Shortly after registering on here (a litlle more than three months, one of my best mates died in a car crash, coming back from a Fortuna Sittard away match). Logged in when I arrived back home, devestated and feeling at a all time low. The members on here were terrific. The amount of support i received on here, through vm, pm, mails and on the forum was hearhwarming. Fell in love with this place from that day on.
So, three years on, and I’m still here. Never thought, I’d be as active on any forum as I have been on this one. Been a great ride people so far. Met a lot of superb people on here, be it on the forum, or in real life. I even became a moderator on here this year, something I never could’ve invisited when I registed my name to the best place in the cyber world.
GOT, I salute you and thank all those special members for making me part of this community.
