Tim Howard

Still don't know how some of my American compatriots defend him. Been a turd blossom for 18 months now.

Abuse on twitter and in the ground is however crap and does nothing for the team.
It's not so much defending him as trying to make people realize that it is in fact possible to have some other goalkeeper come in and be worse. One of my biggest worries about Everton going forward is that Martinez starts believing that Tim Howard is as bad as some of our supporters make out and decides to bring in someone like Marshall or Begovic on the cheap to replace him. Which would most likely leave us worse off than we were before, especially if we keep defending the same way we have been this season.

I think @zirc is right; we need a keeper suited for the style we're playing. Just grabbing the first guy who becomes available isn't going to cut it.

Or you experiment with Joel Robles first to see if with a run in the team he is capable??

Yep, I reckon your biggest worry might come true and Martinez listens to the Everton fans and realises after 18 months and about another 50 odd games too many that Howard is crap and drops him.

The defence is crap mate and I don't think too many folk will say otherwise. Howard is also crap and that's blatant to all. I don't blame Howard btw ( well I blame him for being incapable for doing the basics right ) I blame Martinez for persisting with him game in game out.

Catch-22 for Robles, in a way. Martinez clearly values Howard's PL experience very highly, so that's why he sticks with him. Robles could very well be better than Howard in the long term with more experience, but he ain't gettin' any.

I'd be fine with that. At least we wouldn't be spending £7 or 8 million in transfer fees and committing another 4 years to someone who won't make us any better.

If you look at Sunderland they have sold Pantillimon and brought back Jordan Pickford from Preston loan to come in as 1st choice. Allardyce is no fool and plays to win though always goes for experience in his teams so its noteworty that he would start a 21 year old keeper. Hes the current starting England u21 keeper and the u19 keeper is Freddie Woodman whose dad i think used to play for Crystal Palace.

We dont seem to have any young keepers in the youth sides who are highly rated so it would make sense for us to go and buy someone elses just like Stoke buying Butland and loaning him out until he was ready.

If we want to go for a "sure thing" then we go for Butland. The next best idea is to go for Pickford as Sunderland will have given him half a season as starter before the summer.

Options for me are:

A-- Sign a 1st choice experienced keeper and also Woodman or similar to loan out. Keeping robles on the bench during this time until they are ready.

B-- Sign a young keeper like Pickford,Horn,Scuffet etc and have them for 15 years.

C--Go all out for Butland who is both experienced and young.

The lowest risk would be Butland and next lowest would be a Pickford type depending on how he does this season as both currently play in the league.

No way should we go for Marshall or similar for such a key position. Other than Martyn weve only had Southall so we are traditionally quite poor in this position...that needs to change.

Howard is leaving when his contract ends Surely the time is now to replace him. I agree that Robles should be given a run. If not, Valdes is maybe a short term answer
