He can't get near the ball to do anything classed as an error. If you close your eyes and fall over backwards whenever someone has a shot you're absolving yourself of any chance of making an 'error'.

Exactly. Starjumping out of the way of a shot, getting beaten at your near post and failing to come out for crosses aren't errors leading to goals. It's just poor goalkeeping. Thing about Howard is, and I've said this before, he makes the impossible saves look routine and the routine saves look impossible.

His dad used to post on here now and again to update us on what he was up to, seemed like a decent bloke.

He is on Twitter. Someone tweeted him the other day asking him if he could play in goal! His reply (laughter) suggested he is aware of our calamitous goalie...(Then again, who isn't, apart from RM?)

He's just not the style of keeper we need. He's good at staying close to home and stopping shots, we need more of a sweeper keeper who can cover a lot of ground and command his entire 18 yard box. Howard was a wonderful keeper for a Moyes style team, not at all for Martinez.
