Tim Howard

For what it's worth, in my opinion Tim Howard is past his best as a Premiership quality goalie and I hope we are seriously looking for the right replacement for the summer is Joel Robles is not going to get the chance to claim the role for himself.

That said, barracking of our own players in the way TH got it yesterday is bang out of order.

Did we behave like that in the darkest days of the relegation worries - not that I recall.
Sure, we reacted with hurling cushions from the stands etc, but that was more an overall complaint about situations rather than targetted abuse of individuals.

TH might not be everybody's favourite right now, but while he's getting the start - the managers call - supporters ideally should (try to) support.
Doesn't help himself with the crap he comes out with or giving it loads to the fans. The fans rightly won't put up with it

Doug he is a international Keeper he should ignore it, if you call that stick you should have seen in it in the 1960's, and 1970's when stood on the terracing disappointed fans could get so close to the players, they ignored it Doug and proved they could do it perhaps why Tim responds making the situation worse is that he can't anymore?????

It's gone beyond barracking now Joe, just look at some of the abuse he gets written on here. This sort of stuff is getting hurled at him at the match. There's no wonder he reacts, anyone would. It's detrimental to him and the team for gods sake. In 35+ years of going the game I've never seen one player singled out for so much personal abuse and it's uncalled for. People are waiting in suspense for any minor error and are ready with the insults and abuse, no Everton player should have to perform under this sort of scrutiny. We've always been a tough crowd to play in front of if you're not a favourite but the hatred being directed at Howard has gone beyond anything other players before him have received.

We like nothing more than to pat ourselves on the back and tell each other how special we are, is this the sort of behaviour that makes you proud of being an Evertonian? Abusing our own players to the point were they're frightened to perform? It's ridiculous and shameful.

It was when he caught the cross and turned round to have a go instead getting on with it. Missed the one with the free kick. Both incidents he needs to get on with things instead of alienating even more fans

He was getting abused for doing his job, it's bullying and it's not helpful in anyway. I'm certain most people would react in a similar way, yourself included.

The abuse served up to far better players than him in the past as they've neared the end is far worse than anything Howard has had to put up with. Surely the question should be why there is an ironic cheer from a large section of the crowd when he makes a simple catch? No orchestration there, just people expressing their amazement that he can actually catch a ball.

What abuse on here if its abuse report it then doug - I just give my opinion not abuse - you know that - look I have posted earlier today to you if its obscene at the game then I disagree with it -
This is a forum run by Mods - its about opinions Doug and I seen far worse dished out on here to our own players in the 1960.70s - thay rose above it to prove what good players they were - Tim should ignore them by responding he is making it worse -
Look Doug even though we disagree over Tim we have become friends, that's what forums are about -
Any fan is allowed to debate any players form in a game or games - at the game its self then if it over the top the stewards should remove the offenders!

I don't agree, what player in our past has received so much vitriol?

Howard is starting by all accounts!
RM will pay the price imo!

I,d be more concerned that Jags 1st game back will be against one of the best strikers in he EPL. !
Not even a 15min run out against spurs which is asking a lot and then throw in the Howard factor.
Fans are going to see past the players soon and start fixing there gaze on the dugout.

People seem to get criticism and abuse mixed up with regards to Howard. I think he deserves to be criticised and quite rightly too given his form this season. Whilst he isn't to blame for every goal we concede his lack of command and flapping/star jumping has become almost caricature like. I appreciate he is under a lot of pressure from the fans but if it is getting to him, effecting him on the pitch and he is not mentally stable enough to block that out and deal with the job professionally then he clearly isn't the experienced personality Martinez keeps telling us we need in the team. That goes for all the players, they are all open to criticism when poor.... our defense especially.
Personal and down right evil abuse is not on though. Howard tweeted just before the game and vile comments some fans replied to him were horrible, wishing injury and death on him? not acceptable no matter how good or bad a player is playing.

Its laughable Doug - when it was standing only on the terraces I am older than you with no stewards about I seen far worse than what you are describing!
Our manager got abused after dropping alex young outside the ground at Blackpool, not attacked as reported but he had to be protected - Gordon West was handed a handbag - he laughed about it not pc today Doug-

I didn't mean to offend you Joe, it wasn't a direct dig at you in anyway at all.

I'm talking about things like people wishing an injury on him and the likes. It's one thing preferring another player but people are over stepping the mark with Howard, look at yesterday's tweet. Like God knows how many other footballers over the weekend he writes something on Twitter about the coming game, next thing he's a 'clown' and getting abused by morons.
