Tim Howard

What games are you watching mate, Howards forever making spectacular mistakes. We could literally pick a fan out of the crowd to go in goal and theyd be an improvement on Tim.

Joels got 4 clean sheets in his last 7, after a shaky start to his everton career he looks to be settling down into a solid keeper

It's probably pointless even debating it anyway because it's not going to happen.

His distribution is poor.
He flaps at everything.
He cannot speak to our defence in different languages like Cech apparently can.
He doesn't save when we are winning.
Long shots? He'll watch them go in m8.
Flap.

Shhh, Dougie will hear you.

How many other Prem clubs would want Tim?
Exactly. Maybe the RS.
Depends what you mean. Hardly anyone would want him as a long term signing -- he's far too old for that. If you're talking about a hypothetical "swap goalkeepers for the rest of the season", then I think lots of clubs would be happy with that. Norwich, Bournemouth, Southampton, Sutherland, West Brom, Villa, Swansea, the RS -- all of them have gotten significantly worse goalkeeping than we've gotten from Howard this season. I'd throw Leicester in there, too, except I realize I have a much lower opinion of Schmeichel than most people do.

Is Tim Howard past his peak - Yes
Is he currently good enough for a team of our standing? - No
Was he a good signing and good player for us - Yes
Will replacing him solve all our defensive woes - No, our problem is we give away too many easy chances. This is the fault of the manager who doesn't do enough to stop other teams creating chances.

Agree with this, if people think just replacing Howard is going to solve our issues they will be in for a rude awakening. A lot of people last season pointed the finger at Distin, it's how we defend as a unit is the issue.

But, heyho let's stick with a good old fashioned scapegoat.

Rubbish a keeper is thje main last line of your defence if he does not breed confidence then your defence will be uneasy , and thats whats happening!

Don't be ridiculous.

I've been a huge critic of Howard for a while and I utterly loathe him now, but let's not rewrite history. After years of gash keepers (a brief interlude of Nigel Martyn bliss aside) it was great to have a reliable shot-stopper.

Martinez needs to sort out our defending as a whole, as Howard isn't the sole cause of our problems. But he is a major part of it and this ridiculous, stubborn refusal to try anyone else has gone too far. But much like when Distin, Neville and Cahill were past their sell-by date long before they actually left, that doesn't suddenly mean they were always crap for us and weren't good signings.
