Tim Howard

The point is, you seem to think that the "Howard apologists" don't also think he should be replaced. I don't actually see anyone saying we should keep him beyond the first opportunity to get an upgrade.
The problem is I don't think that Joel is any sort of improvement. His few appearances this season in the Cup have been fine, good even, but no better than Howard. It also seems to be forgotten that while Tim was injured last season, after the first few games of Joel in goal (when he was let off all sorts of thing by the Interweb hordes because he was young and inexperienced), we saw he wasn't actually any better.
Some people are locked into seeing only the worst in Tim and the best in Joel and nothing either of them do changes that.

Nailed it

You mean when Joel came in and kept 3 clean sheets

By "Howard apologists" I don't mean those that don't think Howard needs replacing (ahem, Dithering Dougie), I mean those who have become so defensive of Howard that they can't admit to him making any kind of mistake.

I think they can see mistakes as well as anyone, but they can also see where someone else is at fault or situations where no blame at all should be attributed to Tim (or indeed any other player)

It was in response to someone using stats, or did you pull them up as well?

I think GOT quoted those stats in response to some posted by MLyons, which were favourable to Howard, to effectively show that stats can be skewed to suit any agenda. I always prefer to judge on what I see with my own eyes, which is what GOT originally said.

Any goal we concede now will question the keepers positioning. Its absolutely embarrassingly comical now.

Blaming Howard for that goal last night lol. Good grief. Despite having the big lump in Wickham standing in front of him doing everything but play footy, deliberately blocking him from making any attempt at all, and the fact that Gareth Barry literally gave up and couldn't be arsed doing his job in marking Dann.... Lets blame Howard anyway because well..... Evertonians need to blame somebody when we don't get 3 points.

Even before the ball made contact with Dann's head, you could tell Barry had bollocksed up the man marking job.

This thread is a total shambles.

We also need these for our new keeper, to make sure he keeps his eyes open. Some people seem to forget that the body will react in self defense in certain situations and eyes will close as a reaction to protect the vital organs.

Do you people shout when watching Boxers " Look at him, his eyes are closed!!! "

Howard made some good saves last night, one of which lead to the corner they scored from, more worrying than his positioning is the defending that led to that initial shot.
That aside how annoying is it that they can score from a corner and we cant seem to do anything from ours.

Look we all know that Howard isn't what he was, Martinez is too stubborn to play Joel and we really do need to think about a replacement, but if we continue to not mark up and allow easy corners and shots on target, even with a better man in the sticks goals will still be going on.

No got said those stats don't show the true story use these ones instead. Which actually place Howard 7th in the league goal tenders.
