Tim Howard

Howard isn't very good at this point, but don't let him be a scapegoat for other players. They missed way to many assignments towards the end of the game and it killed us in the second half.

He is over the hill, but the last thing I thought about that third goal was "the keeper should have stopped it". We had at least 8 men in our own box and they had 1 bloke, and nobody was marking him!!

True this, problem is a lot of fans see the ball go in the net but have got no idea what actually happened prior to that, they can only see the last line of defense and take it for granted its all down to Howard.
As for the way his comments have been interpreted to suit, expect nothing less.

Go sign Butland in January even if it does cost 17m and we will see it earn us half that back in points we gain this season

The Butland stuff is complete tripe for so many reasons

1) We wont have the money
2) Even if we did someone else would go in and price us out of the deal (Liverpool)
3) He has only just got into the stoke team and seems happy were he is for now
4) Unfortunatly someone like Butland who has no affiliation with us would see us as a sideways step with Stoke
5) Howards sticking around

Butland would be a big statement of intent, Klopp will most likely be buying from abroad and Spurs already have Lloris so we would stand a decent chance at getting him.

I've said this before but a more cheaper and realistic option is Pickford, been very good in the championship and England under 21's. Can't see Sunderland demanding too much for someone who's never played a game in the Prem.

1. We do have the money to make one big purchase a year mate, from next season especially so, a concrete 15m offer was made for Yarmolenko, also we turned down 8m for a bit part player in naismith from a team that probably still ahs the same interest, throw in mirallas who is out of favour and estimated conservatively at around 10m and there you go
2. Can use that theory to excuse buying any player then, who'd have thought we'd be the only one willing to pay for Lukaku, who'd have thought no one else would match our offer for Yarmolenko, same for McCarthy etc, will Liverpool or any other team be willing to pay 17m for a keeper?
3. We'd pay him better wages, he'd have a higher profile at us, we have a manager who has shown an aptitude with working with younger players, we are a far bigger team than Stoke and we have a massive record of finishing higher than them thus offering much greater chance of playing in Europe, never mind we'd probably double his wages
4. We are not a sideways step to Stoke mate, and plainly that's a ludicrous statement to make, the same offer made and same conditions for a player they would choose us 100% over them every single time, how many England internationals does Stoke have - how many do we have just for a starter?
5. Howard has at most 1 year left - this season he has drawn a new level of criticism not only from fans but also the media have finally gotten onto the fact he is a liability and that attention will have an impact.

Liverpool will buy a German keeper - absolutely nailed on to do so - and will probably pay half of what Butland would cost

and that is certainly going to endear players to there own fans. The last thing you do is criticise your own fans. Anyhow, the substitution was the added time but to blame the fans for not being able to hold out for another 30 secs or so is scraping the barrel and deflecting there own sh!teness

I bet most fans would be okay if Barkley came out and said, 'nah, loads of bells at Everton, some are sound, but a lot of that 35-40k are just thick'

1. What happens if we (and likely when) get injuries to Lukaku, Deulofeu or Kone and we've got no one to fill in for them?

2. If other teams are willing to spend £17m on a goalkeeper why should we?

3. It's impossible to say we'd double his wages considering we don't know them and we're far from being a wealthy club.

4. It looked very much like the alpine Messi decided on Stoke over us in the summer.

5. Howard's got another another 2 years on his contract after this season.

I think so too, Klopp will be making all sorts of "luxury name" foreign signings imo. Butland would a fantastic signing. I think Martinez will look for a backup striker to Rom in january and will go for a playmaker/possible GK signing next summer.
