Tim Howard

Doug we need a new keeper, but our resources transfer wise is not there, TH should never have been given a lucrative contract till the age of 39 based on one world cup wonder game, we are stuck with him he is not the best, but I think he has improved from last season slightly his positional sense and his command of his box is a worry, Then he has, and always will be a shot stopper, other parts of the team are just as weak - City were a different class yesterday, Could Robles step up? if he keeps three clean sheets this time he should say in the team, that was a big mistake to drop him last season by RM imo - pre season I thought he looked devoid of confidence, TH has to stop making near post mistakes!
As Joey says, keepers tend to get better as they get older....Tims best years yet to come!!!
Hey, we are old enough to remember when we couldn't even get a quarter decent stopper between the sticks!
'Stuck with Tim' means more pain ahead!

I think he had a decent game up to the first goal. Any goalkeeper worth his place at this level should not be getting beaten at his near post.

As for the second, I think he still could have done better. Getting chipped like that is inexcusable.

I'll understand if we keep selecting him over Robles if this was a once in a game problem, but it seems to be happening more often than lot. He seems to lack any kind of command of his area any more, and he's making silly little mistakes.

I post this now, knowing that in a few hours time a few Yanks will come online and defend him as if he's some kind of untouchable god-like being - but no player should ever be immune to criticism at this level.

Always been a fan of his but I just don't understand the thought process for their first goal. From that angle, if Kolorov lashes it in the far corner then it's probably goal of the season type stuff. Why then he didnt just cover that front post i'll never know.

I would think this is his last season for us.

Getting beaten at the near post was diabolical. He didn't make one 'great' save. The closest one was when he closed his eyes and turned away and Navas (I think) hit it right into his jaw.

Robles may not be the answer, but Howard definitely isn't. Even accepting that City were the better team, deserved to win, and were likely to score no matter - he will cost us points with his flapping.

He'll maybe win us 3 points this year, and lose us 12.

Time to go to New York Timmy.

It's really not though, loads of goal keepers cheat inside when a full-back is dribbling down the line, most fullbacks aren't good enough to squeeze it past them.

It was a mistake by Howard to gamble that Kolarov would cross, but there's nothing "baffling" about it whatsoever.

I understand football mate, and I'm not genuinely confused. It was a figure of speech to convey how stupid his decision was.

I think it's always been on the cards that this would likely be his last season for us Joe and the 3 year contract was to protect us from him being tempted by the MLS and leaving before Martinez had the resources to buy his replacement in. I said yesterday that it wasn't great for the first goal but, he gambled and it didn't work out. But apart from that he had a decent game and looked pretty assured. He's started the season okay and looks rested and focused, if we're to have a good season we'll need him to play well because the alternative to Howard certainly isn't the answer.

Summed up brilliantly. At his peak was an ok prem keeper. Everything after that has been a nightmare.
I have been a big TH critic, but it looks like RM has no cash for a keeper, and looking at the rest of the team needs to strengthen there, play Robles in midweek and see how he performs - RM is happy with both Keepers , but to get another big Nev will be hard work!

Yes Doug he kept us in the game before that first goal but when you look at it he thought it was going to be a cross, he dived before the shot his age is deffo creeping up on him!
