Although it's been a ropey couple of seasons for the big man, I think it is worth remembering that he has been a great servant to this club over the years and a consummate professional as well as being a rather tidy goalkeeper in his prime.

I for one hope he gets the chance at a decent send off

So I was wrong about this. The window only has to be open in the league acquiring the player. MLS's window is open now through May.

I guess the only reasons he isn't leaving now are:

a) the deal isn't done, and
b) surely he is still a better option as a backup than Griffiths or Stanek who have never played a league game
