Tim Howard

We should sign Chris Wood, proven goalscorer, world class in the making, potential to be the next Drogba, and we'd get 4million kiwis supporting us, it's a no brainer.

The Americans who support us because of certain American players that play or have played for us and now go on to support a different club, have never been true Evertonians in the first place. Something about being chosen I believe. I'm sure most of the Americans on here will continue to support Everton regardless of any American playing for this club. Those who don't, clearly don't understand and for that reason don't matter.

All the signs are pointing towards his exit this Summer from my POV.

Its a damn shame that we never made the most of this situation, he gave us a perfect vehicle to sell shirts over the pond, but sadly, due to our shocking kitbag deal, most of our oil grabbing, gun toting cousins struggled to purchase anything.

My question is 2 fold, when he leaves which team do you think the MURICANS will go and support and how much impact do you think hes made to brand Everton in the land of Baseball?

Goalkeeper shirts don't tend to sell in any great volume.

Here here. Tim has been fantastic for my club and my country for a decade, but if the form he has been in since the world cup is his new form...well get him the hell out of Goodison. (Guzan not exactly doing the yanks proud at current either).

The only side note is that he has had spells of bad form before and anytime he looks on his way out, he eventually comes back even better. Too late to loan him to Toronto FC to let him iron out his form, so all we have is hope and Joel for the duration of this campaign.

In my opinion very little. If I asked the people sitting around me right now (in the midwest of "the land of baseball, oil grabbing and gun toting"):

"Who is Tim Howard?" About 50% of them would know.
If I asked that 50% "what team does he play for?" 100% of them would reply "USA".

Which is a shame for the reasons you outlined above. Give us some time. Football is growing over here and, as you know, once the game takes hold of you- you become hooked. There are other impediments to full understanding of footballing culture over here, and I do not profess to have that even after many years following the sport, but I assure you there are many more "fans of the game" over here than there are "idol-followers", just hoping their lad can make it big.

First off, it's the land of American football! That aside, I don't care if he leaves or not. He's never been my favorite Evertonian. Sure, it's nice to have an American in the squad, but it won't change my rooting interest. Most of my friends still like the "big" clubs so I haven't noticed an upswing in Everton fans post-world cup.

Americans like winning and fair competitions. Therefore supporting a club that doesn't win anything in the most corrupt sporting 'competition' in the world is unlikely to appeal.
There actually is a lot of truth to this statement. No matter who you like in American sports, there is a realistic dream they could win a few years down the road, no matter how terrible the team currently is.

I still like Howard. Under valued by blues. The good and great stuff he does is ignored, the poor highlighted.

Been a bit off form this season mind. Joel's good run should add some needed pressure on him

He's utterly terrible.

Can be a good shot stopper on his day. Howard out. Marketing department out. Better branding in.

"Utterly terrible" is too harsh. He was an excellent shot stopper and good passer and adequate at most other GK skills. As he is doing neither of those well prior to his injury, it may be fair to say he is no longer "on his day." Still not convince Joel is any better, but I badly want better keeping for the Toffees.

This statement does not explain Browns, Cubs, Bills, Jets, or Lions fans.

The casual hordes root for winning teams, this is true everywhere which explains the vast army of Southern kopites. But there are a lot of Americans, and a lot of them find glory hunting anathema.

Are you saying Everton can't win a Prem title a few years down the road? Cripes, I still think they can eek out a trophy this year if the lads can come to form, I don;t see any roster in Europa that much superior to the blues as to think we can't take em in a given round. I always think they can pull it off, someday they will again.

There are still plenty of NFL and Cleveland Browns fans out there- so I know Americans have no problem supporting teams that don't win anything in a corrupt league.

I am particularly harsh on Howard. The way he goes down too early in one on ones. The way he flaps at crosses.

He was/is very good when he had no time to think. Given time? He makes me very uncomfortable. I'm not convinced by Joel either, but Howard, even assuming he regains form, is too inconsistent at his age to be our number one.
