Tim Howard

Howard was suicidal at times today. Normally so secure and consistent.

Something went awry today...but I'm sure he can be forgiven and he'll return to his normal self.

But that...

That was poor Tim.

Simply unforgiveable for a keeper to have that kind of height advantage when jumping to be too scared to not flatten the opposing player in 2 when trying to claim a ball and instead flapping at fresh air and looking like a complete tit in the process. No excuses, no but he played well last week. Disgraceful mistakes from a senior pro whose head for whatever reason was not fully focused on the job and has pretty much gave Palace 3 points. Doesn't matter anyway as Robles would have been picked on Tuesday but Howard needs to have a serious look at his contribution today.

First goal, not Howards' fault - defenders responsibility to determine whether to shepherd the ball back in that situation. They should have been glancing over the shoulder at the attacker and if he got within a yard, hack it away. Howard then had to commit to the ball when the defenders didn't.

The second however... It was a lightweight cross, he was under it, and for some reason he was as lightweight as Osman going for it. Don't know what he was thinking.

Three individual errors giftwrapped the game to Palace today as we looked good at 1-0.

Howard was mostly at fault for the first goal imo. If he didn't come out it definitely would have been cleared.

Defenders responsibility - safety first.

It's basic stuff - it's a glance over the shoulder for the oncoming attacker and get rid if he gets close before it's in the 'keepers hands.

Howard still made the first mistake coming for a ball he couldn't get.

And with the second his arm actually gets hit just before he's about to catch it so it easily could have been a foul but he really should have dealt with it anyway.

He's the guy with the view on where the ball is and where the CP player is....should open his mouth and direct matters the soft get.

In that scenario, he isn't - Jagielka and Stones both blocking his view of the player; all he can do is see the ball and go for it. Centre halves have the lateral awareness of the oncoming player.

The oncoming player was behind them until right at the end. They should have booted it out....but why's their goalie not shouting that at them ?
