Absolutely. Distin ballsed up. No question.

But a top class keeper can win you games when the defence has messed up. See Lloris against us as an example.

Howard was still beaten at his best post mind you!
All of this is true. It's what Howard did for the US at the World Cup. He's not doing it right now, but after 18 months of quality form, he's had 3 months of poor form. If we offed a player every time that happened we'd have a new team every window. If he continues on this path, look for a replacement during the summer. Won't argue anything at that point. Some folks just get trigger happy.

I think people would be more positive if those 18 months of quality form hadn't followed another 18 months of very poor form.

You need your keeper to be consistent.

Sadly I can only see more mistake coming.

However. And I think we all mean this:

I hope he plays an absolute blinder tomorrow.

Yeah but say we take Wednesday in insolation for this season, if Distin isn't beaten so easily there's not a shot on whoever is in goal good or bad. Same can be said for last Sunday actually. There have been a lot more times Howard's been left exposed by the players in front of him who arent taking any blame and people calling for their heads because he's the last line of defence and the obvious candidate.

The problem as ever with us at the moment comes down to money and how to priorities it. Howard's just got a long term contract means he's stating unless we get an offer he can't refuse.

if we used that excuse all the time there would be no point in spending money on a keeper, just get the ball boy to do it.

i know where you're coming from, but defenders are going to get beaten from time to time, it's the goalkeepers job to stop things when that happen. at the end of the day, hull offered pretty much nowt, had 1 shot on target all game and scored from it. teams seem to be very clinical against us this season as we don't seem to be conceding many shots on target, despite how utterly shocking our defensive play has been all season, but howard is obviously a big cluprit of this clinicalism ([Poor language removed] it, that's a word now).

Wasn't a wonder save mate. I forget who had our chance but Lloris made a standard save at his near post near the end, I vaguely think just before or just after our handball peno shout.

As I say wasn't spectacular at all. But a save he should have made at his near post.

See Wednesday night for how to not do that.
It's pointless trying to argue with some in here if he makes a mistake tomorrow that costs us the game they will be back on here Sunday defending him
Sadly 11 years of moyes telling us mediocrity is ok
Has warped some evertonians minds
I want better and hopefully Martinez does too and will get rid of players not up too the job

Amen my friend. Howard getting peppered with shots and having to make saves could be what he needs to flip the switch. That's me being hopeful, but he's always done well in those situations where he knows he needs to make a lot of saves.

But the fact is Distin needs replacing does he not and so does his understudy, we can get by without replacing the goalkeeper who's been indifferent this season but very good for the previous 18 months.

It's not an excuse that others aren't doing their jobs it's just how we priorities our needs.

Maybe promoting his book is distracting him when he should be concentrating on his game 100%.Maybe that game at the World Cup has given him an inflated opinion of himself, that he can't recreate (in truth none of those saves were that outstanding, although US fans tend to just see stats).Replacing your number one keeper can be a real problem.Remember Paul Gerrard replacing Southall? And I can remember how upbeat I felt when we signed Richard Wright (who can forget his Stamford Bridge warm up routine)

tbf distin was dropped down the pecking order behind jagielka, stones and alcaraz. he wouldn't even be on the bench if all were fit. i think we have a few youngsters coming through that will probably move ahead of him next season as well.

imo, same as howard, i think a youngster in browning should be given a go ahead of him - it's something the martinez of last season wouldn't have hesitated in doing, this season has been odd from the word go though.

but distin's 4th choice and howard's 1st choice. we're discussing his decline here, i'm sure there's enough about distin in his thread.

Good for 18 months I've heard it all
What a joke
Yes distain needs replacing so does jags for me and a few more players
But that doesn't hide the fact we have a bang average goal
Keeper
So when moyes played his defensive system with 3 defenders in midfield what was your excuse for his cock ups then

well I cant rem

well I cant remember that but as you say if Aluko hadn't scored and some hull fan was trying to tell me about a great chance they had I doubt I would have remembered that either had he not scored to fair point and Lloris is a great keeper but he was not tested at all by everton nor was Mcgregor Nor was Adrian nor was Swansea's keeper and that is because of our slow lethargic play and not creating chances, the last time a keeper put on a wonder show against us was Mannone on Boxing day or maybe Hart at the end of last season, although Sunderland's keeper was far better
