I think there's a general misconception here. I'm not sure that many people actually want him to re sign, but are wishing we had a player like Cahill was in his prime.

IMHO, Everton is missing a bit of mongrel on the paddock. Tim was the last one to embody that physicality. I'd love to see him back, but only in a coaching or mentoring role.

Naismith when he's on is the most 'Cahill' player we have. Different but the same. Timmy was on most of the time (save that last season which was sad)

He went to Shanghai. Haven't found much info on the reason. Still had a year left with NY Red Bulls. Left by mutual consent.
Never struck me as someone chasing the $$ but I can't see any other reason to move. Maybe to be closer to home? Maybe to continue international football.

To be fair, he's said for years that he wants to play on several different continents.

Don't really see it as being about the money, he's apparently getting $3m (AUD), which "only" works out to about £1.5m a year - could easily have found a club pretty much anywhere who'd pay him that I would have thought.

Obviously there's (allegedly) the possibility of big commercial money in China - but I'm not entirely sure he's got the world star profile to take advantage of it.

Well, he does have his development Academy for the kids, perhaps this will allow him to establish a branch in China? Huge market there.

Besic is the new Cahill....not in actual playing style, but in 'getting it' and seemingly connecting with the people who pay (part of) his wages. Every team needs one.
Hope Tim smashes it up in China.

...announced that his autobiography is coming out this year. Inevitably contain something controversial to boost the sales, it's hard to see what he might announce.
