Tim Cahill

...no chance, he’s a valuable commodity in the Southern Hemisphere and it’s where he always said his future lies.

I'm not so sure. Yes, he's the "face" of football in Australia and easily it's most marketable player, however football will always be far behind cricket, rugby, AFL and league in the Australian sporting consciousness.

Our Tim loves the spotlight, Everton essentially made his career and there's no doubting his passion for the Blues. I'm sure if Everton came calling for him in some sort of capacity, whether coaching or ambassadorial, he'd find it very hard to turn down. Probably the only mitigating factor would be if he'd be willing to uproot his family again to go back to the UK.

Do any other Blues feel like we let Tim go a bit too early? He was two years short of a testimonial when he left. He was exceptional up until around 2011. I don't know why his form fell off a cliff in his final season, but it seemed to me that we were uncharacteristically ruthless in shipping him out. Thought it was a bit harsh on him. I would probably have given him a testimonial for his excellent service.

You only have to look at where he ended up to know what we did was the right move. No club from any decent league was interested. I loved Cahill but the team benefited massively from his absence the following year.

If anything we kept him too long, his final 18 months were painful to watch

Absolutely 100% correct. One of our worst failings has been keeping players when they're past their best. Kevin Campbell, Pistone, Neville, Howard, Ferguson, Hibbert, Jeffers, Gravesen and many others. We're repeating the mistakes with the likes of Jagielka and Baines now.

We are a sentimental shower, too much so,we love our former players and quite rightly, but the place is the biggest old boy network in football for giving ex-players jobs in and around the place, that's why it's refreshing Sammy Lee has been brought in!!

In a coaching role, or mentoring the kids he'd be exceptional. I'd have him back tomorrow.
There's old players who benefit the place and there's some who just hang around like a stale fart....Tim would be firmly in the former group.
