Tim Cahill Autobiography

Back on topic. Met Cahill briefly once. Was very kind to daughter number 1 who was with me and spoke to other daughter on the phone which made her day!! She was still up too late so he told her to go to bed!!! It was after AEK Athens away we got to mix with the players after the game. Pretty nice and unassuming bunch actually and Cahill certainly gave the impression that he appreciated he had a great job with a great club. Not doing us a favour playing for us.

There's a weird feeling around Timmy at the moment now that he has moved back to Aus. Seems to be a lot of discontent from the average Aus football fan about his decision to come home. I can't really put my finger on it to figure out why. For those not in Aus he is regularly being booed in club matches and lots of negative Internet banter. He's clearly the best player Australia has produced IMO and the reason that I started to follow and ultimately fall in love with Everton (sometimes I don't if I should thank him or hate him for that) but I'm keen to know what any other Aussies think

Its is wierd atm isnt it. Alot of my mates are off the whole situation with the perception that melbourne city are getting favours from the leagueand cahill is a bit on the receiving end from opposition fans because of that. Also in my opinion shows that the game is actually getting a foot hold in the country over here and dispite timmy being a national treasure he is playing against your team and as such is the enemy. I could never boo him mind you, also not sure he won many neutral fans complaining about the effect booing has on kids at the game

Didn't he say it was the language and name calling was too much rather than the booing? Skim read an article so might have missed the point. Is anyone from Sidney not going to give some stick to anything from Melbourne? Genuine question, have no idea about the inter city rivalries down under.

Booing at sporting events has also been a sensitive topic in Aus in the past. I get what he's saying though about the language and kids it's not ideal but they will hear it at some point anyway. Bagging the league when he went to greentown also got a lot of people offside

I assumed he gets booed in Sydney because (a) he didn't go there and (b) they know nothing about sport. For the rest, it's probably tall poppy syndrome.

I live in Aus and have never heard anyone say anything but good things about him
