Throw ins

Like most teams nowadays, we only have two players in the whole team who can take throw-ins (and most of the time they are taken illegally) and that is Baines on the left and Coleman on the right.

When you watch the game someone always rushes up to get the game moving again only to stand and wait for Baines or Coleman to slowly trot up, give the opposition time to come back and mark up, then throw it to the player that is most marked or just to the opposition?

Whatever happened to quick throws, long throws, throws from anyone except your left/right backs, throws that go to your players?

We should just do away with throw ins and replace them with a free punch in the face to one of the opposition.

Actually, can you imagine the commentator in that scenario.

''And the referee has overruled the linesman so the punch in the face goes to Everton. Much to the annoyance of Alan Pardew who already looks like he's gone 3 rounds with Tyson.''

I imagine some statistical analysis is behind it. Stats make the game dull, safe and predictable. I view it in football the same way that I view wind tunnels for making cars look dull and samey too.

I completely agree that we've lost the quick thinking from our game. Makes you wonder what Pro footballers do in training sessions, if there are two throw- n takers. If an hours training is anything like a meeting in any school I used to work at school, then they'll be on topic for around 10 minutes, then spend the next 50 minutes gossiping about kids, their parents, a friend, their friend's friend, one of their cats, one of their cat's friends........

Yeah throw ins should be taken is quickly as possible by the closest person to the ball before the opposition get into shape, taking advantage of no offside too when possible. Having a set person on them, taking time over it and trying to turn a throw in into a set piece is dinosaur football IMO. However, it does work for teams with less quality who rely on aerial prowess to get goals.

Gone are the days when I felt throw ins were an advantage. I despair when we get a throw in in our own half near the corner flag as it seems there is no advantage in this area.
I remember when some cheeky muppet would throw the ball against an opponents back while they were walking away and get the ball straight back to themselves. That used to really annoy the opposition.

No sign of throw ins yet.

Just to throw something in...

The fact we are 18th in interceptions, yet Gueye is right up there individually says some of the rest of the side must be WAY below average, interceptions are arguably a good measure of work rate off the ball.. Bournemouth outworked us massively at the weekend even though there has a noticeable improvement in fitness this year.. Shows how out of condition we must have been for the last few years!
