Throw ins

I remember their first season back up playing at the Britannia...think we won 3-2, but Delap gave us fits that day...it was frightening. As good as a cross if not better.

If wide men could cross as effectively as the likes of Bexkham etc. used to do in the earlier years of the prem they'd make loads of assists as quite a few centre halves seem incapable of defending dangerous crosses. Deulofeu is better than most I've seen in a while but it's so annoying when Coleman Murallas or Lennon get to the bye line then cannot get even a decent ball in.

If referees called all the foul throws that happen every weekend there'd be a whole lot of them. He seemed to make it as a momentum call as every was going against at the time.

If referees started to call foul throws, players would soon start to do them right.

It's high time referees started to apply the rules.

In two minds about this thinking. If they applied the true letter of the law to everything then we'd see almost every quick freekick pulled back because it was a yard left or right or too forward or back. It's hard though because as we see, players get away with just running through throws not even dragging their back foot.

Honestly think it's almost impossible to deal with those throw ins. Remember, there's no offside on a throw in so everything is fair game. And Delap could pick out exactly who he wanted more often than not. That's the only reason they stayed up those first couple years. We were the first bigger team they faced and remember most commenting about 'they are going to surprise a lot of teams with those throw ins' being bandied about often.

David Silva did a foul throw tonight at Celtic Park and got away with it.

The commentator noticed it but not the partisan crowd strangely enough.
