Threat of villa

That would have been daft, it was a must win game, they had no Idea how other games were going to finish had to go for the win.

United scored 2 goals after that. They created little before and after too.

But they'll complaint about 1 dubious incident over 90mins as a reason they lost 2.0 and champions league football..

They choked, plain and simple. If you can’t go to Old Trafford in an absolute must win game and smash that terrible team into the next life then you don’t deserve Champions League.

And the brass neck of them to kick up a fuss about a decision when the only reason they didn’t go straight back down was because of goal line technology making it’s one and only error since its introduction is quite some front.

100%

If the goal had stood, the rest of the game wouldn't have played out the same, they'd have stuck 9 men behind the ball, would they have still lost? It's possible we'll never know.. That goal is given 100% of the time for some clubs, but the rest of the league just have to deal with it when it goes against them.. That shouldn't be the case.

But it didn't and they conceded straight after. Point being they could've held on for a draw after being pretty poor all game

As others have no doubt said, an utterly incredulous piece of refereeing and can absolutely see why they're livid, we would be too.

But this has also taken a lot of heat off Martinez's utter stupidity, and also how awful they were. They were battered most of the game, rubbish performance given what they needed.

I admire you loathing of them. I sincerely am not arsed. If they can turn things around to such a degree then so should we.
I wrote a whole list why we’re a bigger club than them a couple weeks ago:
Reasons why Everton is a bigger club than Aston Villa:
1- Everton have a brand new stadium with bigger capacity and is better than Villa Park
2- Everton have won 24 major honours, while Aston Villa have won 22
3- Everton have never been relegated in recent history, whereas Villa have been in the lower divisions multiple times in their history for extended periods of time

You know what villa were robbed today, but let’s not forget they should have been relegated if it wasn’t for a terrible VAR decision, remember that ball over the line?

No, we shouldn't. That 'ghost' goal happened in the first half and there were still nine games to go after that one. We could also point to the game at Palace earlier in the season when we had a perfectly good equaliser from Lansbury not given, which was later admitted to have been a mistake. So, the Sheff U goal was karma for us not getting that palace goal. Although every single decision that goes against us since this goal is seen as karma because of it. Quite boring now as much as its incorrect.

As for the Man U goal - it demonstrates to me that VAR is still not fit fir purpose. Rather than 5-6 minutes drawing lines for a kneecap being offside, or going back for a possible push, then back to see if someone brushed someone calf with their sock, it should be for moments like this. Yes, if the ref blows and a player stops or the game stops, but in this particular instance the blown whistle had no impact on what happened next. In rugby if a try is awarded and its seen to be incorrect the decision can be reversed. This should be no different.

Its also like the Liverpool goal at Tottenham (as funny as you may find it), there is no reason why the ref can't stop the game and say, 'sorry, it was a goal'. This is what VAR is for, righting obvious wrongs and not piddling around for ages on lines. Its also funny how the referee blew for full-tile (I think) at brighton a few seasons back, but was still able to bring the players back for a Man U penalty!

I don't blame the ref either. Inexperienced or not its just a mistake. Its VAR that's the issue. Anyway, I'm happy with Europa. Its still European competition.

In fairness, 1-0 up with utds confidence being so brittle and a toxic fanbase makes it a very different game

arguement that in standing on keepers hand should be deemed a foul anyway.

Unlucky but Utd had been dominant the whole match and even gave it that end of season feel by bringing on the the old dogs for the their final game before leaving. Villa needed to wipe this Utd side away but failed to even look capable of ever doing it.

Martinez leaving will be a big miss. Might mean they can keep Watkins though which is likely a harder position to fill. Be interesting this transfer window

Definitely agree this is what var was intended for.

Clear and obvious errors. Now while not clear from where ref is standing, half a,second on replay you see it was a goal. Clearly,

He didn't stand on the keepers hands. The keeper fumbled the ball and that's all that happened. He messed up we (should have) scored.

As for the game its not the first big game this season we haven't turned up for. Its the issue of having no serial winners amongst the team/squad other than Martinez. We just couldn't handle the situation - see also Palace at Wembley.

As for our transfer window I think there would have been a bit of work done to the squad anyway to bring the age profile down. Martinez will be a huge drop off, whoever replaces him, still needs must. I think we'll lose one other big money hitter (maybe Kamara and or Digne), but hopefully not Watkins. Just shows how PSR for all its best intentions has just had the side effect of keeping ambitious clubs down. We should be be adding to the squad with wealthy owners but in reality it now looks like two seasons of selling Luiz, Diaby, Duran, and now Martinez and maybe Kamara/Bailey/Digne/Watkins. Unless we're very lucky in the transfer market you can't escape the feeling that we'll have to drop back into the pack.

The issue is who's going to sign your older players on big wages? Watkins will probably be saleable but nobody is signing Digne given his age and what you're paying him. You then end up having to keep them until their contract ends and getting no money, which has been our problem for a number of years.

His contract is due to expire next year, same with Kamara, so not as big a problem as it may appear. Plus, thanks to our friends in Saudi there's always someone willing with an open cheque book for good players. Luckily our squad isn't packed with underachievers but players other clubs would love to have. I don't think there's any rush to get rid of Digne, and definitely not Kamara, but you'd think someone somewhere will need to move on as well as martinez.

Hopefully for us that could be made up of Bailey/Buendia/and an assortment of others, Barkley? But why sell 3 when you could sell one? That's the issue.
