Threat of villa

Villa have won what recently?
Saying they’ve won nothing is getting tired now and doesn't disprove my point that they're miles ahead of us.

We used to say the same about Newcastle, and they’ve gone and lifted a trophy. Odds are Villa will too if Emery stays. They’ve got a semi-final this Saturday, in the fight to finish top 4, and were unlucky not to complete a comeback in the quarters against arguably the most in-form team in Europe. Truth is, they’ve already done more than we have in the past 15 years. I'd kill to see us in the UCL.

Utter nonsense. Why are you so down on Everton? 5 seasons ago Villa were in the Championship. If they win the FA cup great, but otherwise we could catch them in two decent transfer windows.

Is it really being "down on Everton" just to state facts? Can it truly be called "utter nonsense" to point out that they've accomplished more than we have over the past 15 years? We've not seen Everton in Europe since 17/18, never mind champions league, haven't been to a semi-final since15/16, a final? 08/09.

I agree with your last point though, football can change quickly, i'm not sure 'decent' will cut it, but a couple great windows could bridge the gap.

Over the last 15 seasons, they were relegated once, before that fought relegation twice. Spent three seasons in the Championship, then fought relegation in their first season back. So they have progressed with the appointments of Emery vs Dyche. So I stand by utter nonsense that they have accomplished more over 15 years. 2/3 seasons maybe.

The Newcastle comparison is a bit misleading as they’ve basically won a lottery ticket rather than intelligently worked their way to success. However, Villa are a model to follow in how they’ve traded effectively, seized upon a manager with something to prove in the PL and also - recently - used the loan market as well as you could imagine.

More trips to Wembley, more great nights under lights against European royalty, more away days in Europe. They have had experiences that live long in memory and it’s a great time to be a villa fan.
“Winning things” has altered for fans… a league cup isn’t the same value as this seasons experience for them.

I would rather win the league cup personally.

Get that but I bet you can’t name the last 5 teams to win that these days, or remember a final. Certainly won’t remember the route to the final - it’s low key.
I would rather have a season of a good run in eurpope - it would be a greater signal of progess

A league cup win is in the record books. Sky tv and broadcasters may try to persuade us that a home win over Bayern Munich in a champions league group match means more, however, I doubt it.
