No i don't think Villa are better than us either, theres not much between us though, and i expect a tight game next week.

Liverpool as we've covered, in my opinion anyway, have the better squad. Spurs yes i would take their attack and midfield over ours. Kranjcar, Modric, Lennon and Palacios is an unbelievable combination, worthy of the top four really, and with the likes of Huddlestone, Bentley and Jenas, as back up they've got better strength in depth than us too in my opinion. Defence is a tough one. Corluka, Bale, Dawson and Kaboul vs Neville, Baines, Heitinga and Jagielka, its certainly a tough one, i don't believe they are better than us in every area of the pitch but they have the better squad overall but they have the likes of Woodgate to come in while we have Yobo. But Howard is miles better than Gomes !

As for City, they've spent their money and they are obviously the better team, we've took 6 great points off them this season, but thats irrelevant, it doesnt make us the better team because of it, the league table doesnt lie, as they say, they are more consistant and have more match winners to call upon than we do.

Edit **

Matt Damon, you point to the Fiorentina game, but who progressed ? It was the same at Goodison against Liverpool this season, Points over performance mate, every single time. Well look, im happy you believe we are the best on Merseyside, and i truly hope your right about next season, but we'll both still be here hopefully in 12 months time, and we'll have this discussion again.

Liverpool as we've covered, in my opinion anyway, have the better squad, there is no way of knowing what will happen to them in 5 years time. Lad, MASSIVE WUM

Your coming across more and more as a red - fair play to ya though, you gave it a good go. Enjoy these next time you watch the reds on the big screen rather than at anfield...

This "the league table never lies" quote.

Its nonsense the league table can often lie.

In 2004 we finished 4th. Is Everton's team better or worse now compared to then?

Ask Moyes. It's way way way better.

You ask about who has progressed, take a close look at the team? The number of hoofers has decreased compared to 2004. We don't rely on the 1-0 results.

Points over performance?

You've got to perform to get the points. Every single time. But you can't do that with injured players.

Like I say. Everton 2003/2004 or Everton 2010/2011. I'd take the latter with no disrespect, but we're better setup for sustained progression.

Thats why EVERTON > liverpool.

Thats why we will be able to keep hold of our players and add to them as well

Wum ? We are as good as if not better than villa, we haven't been this season for a variety of reasons, which will hopefully be rectified next year, but i do genuinely believe spurs, city and liverpool have the better squads. That's all it doesn't make me any less of a fan, and again I don't think it's that bad a shout given the way spurs and city have pushed on this year.

I know I'm going to get slammed for this but along with. Torres and Gerrard, I think Kuyt has been the rs's most important player over the last couple of seasons.

Couldnt be bothered to read through this whole thread. But on the first page someones responce to the maker of the thread was 'call y'self a toffee? everton are far better than liverpool'

How does it make you less of an Evertonian to admit when another team is better? OK, the gap maybe closing but Liverpool are still better and in recent history have been far better than we have.

Not having anyone being accused of being less of a fan because they admit the truth and dont go around saying 'we are the best team in the world' even though we're clearly not. Things are looking up for us at present and its great, I think next season we can really push on with a fully fit squad. But lets not be dillusional.

Sad but true. I've been saying for ages we've been crying out for a striker. Saha and Yakubu are good strikers when fit and on form, but neither one of them are prolific enough in front of goal to really worry defences. I know Yakubu is still getting back to what he was and Saha has had a decent goal return but its still not good enough.

We need a Torres, Defoe, Tevez, hell even a Bent would do. I know the money isn't there to afford strikers of that calibre, but i would like to see us try what other teams have been doing and taking gambles on young talents, perhaps even look to South America.

I mean Rodallega would've been a top striker for us, and United are now looking to those shores too after signing that young Mexican lad. I know its a gamble but surely we can raise a few million by flogging some dead wood and have a go. You can moan all you like about our injuries but sometimes you just have to say that certain players aren't good enough. Yakubu and Saha wouldn't get anywhere near City, Spurs or Liverpool's frontlines. Don't get me wrong i wouldn't sell either of them, but we definitely do need a bit more invention up top if we are to get into the European places next year.

That cat from Bordeaux impressed me and he's available on a free, too bad its rumored Arsenal already signed him.

I have been going to goodison since 1958 and have seen worse Everton teams than this, I am looking to improvements next season as the players we have will improve and lets see who we get.As for the reds this is one of the poorest teams if not the poorest Ihave seen since pre Shankly

Thank you. That is exactly the point. I have been watching Everton since 1960 and as for Micknick, no I am not miserable but I am not prepared to sit back and think everything is wonderful. There is nothing more I want than Everton once more to be the top team in the City never mind the league. So when that lot get a chance to crow over us, yes I get damned mad.

BTW this season is not yet over if we string our last games together for max points could still be in with a shout.

AS for next season IMO a stiker is a priority. On the right side get shut of Neville and Coleman in and Gosling in front, and midfield why should we need more midfielders Fellaini will be back!

1. Everton had 13 players out for the away leg and 9 for the home

2. Liverpool had 48 hours extra preparation for the game than Benfica had

3. Liverpool had their best possible team on, shown by the fact the FSW kept Ladyboy and St Steven of Huyton on till the 85th minute.

4. Everton have been the best team in the league since Xmas.

5. Everton are not 250m in debt. We have 40 million debts amongst the lowest in the league.

6. Everton have decent youth coming through getting experience. I can't name one RS player youth they're bringing through

7. Yobo did most of the hoof ball and playing into the opposition hands in Sporting and he's barely played since and looks like he's on his way

8. Arteta has shown just what we missed when he was out, and knowing Moyes he'll be after a replica or similar so that if it happens again we have cover

9. Gerrard's not getting any younger, whilst Everton's players are all approaching their peak

10. We have Moyes they have the FSW. FSW spent 45m per season and look where they are. Moyes has built his own team with about the same amount in 5 years.

Enough said.

Toffeeweb and these types of threads. My a*se.

PS. Liverpool demanding to play the Thursday and forcing us on the Tuesday hampered us - see 48 hours extra issue for effect.

FTRS!

Bravo Mr Damon. Perfectly put.

You were brilliant in the Bourne Identity last night on ITV2+1.....btw

We will not win games with Gosling on the right of midfield.

I think he's a good impact player, and has scored some important goals for us from the bench, but I do not think he has the quality to be starting for us (not just yet anyway)

I think a right winger should be top priority this next transfer window. Just like the last few.

Although, I do sort of agree with you. It's not top priority, but we should be looking to replace Saha over the next season or two. I rate Yakubu, but what if he doesn't get back to the standard he was at?

Look.

I have just read every single post in this thread.

The only reason Liverpool ever beat us.....is because we are scared of the red on their shirts....

I'm convinced we would smash them if they were wearing a different colour. Like Pink.

Serious.

In Moyes we trust. He has consistently brought in atleast one player per season to improve the team. He's also bringing through youth on a more regular basis. Perhaps next year Coleman will cement a place in the side and Baxter or Duffy will be providing the sort of scintillating cameos that we've been witnessing from the young irishman.

Next term you'd expect Howard to rediscover his form, Coleman to have a dynamite debut season, Jagielka to return to his best, Baines to get forward as much as he did last season, Heitinga to find a settled position, Fellaini to continue where he left off before injury, Arteta and Pienaar to develop their understanding, Cahill to get back amongst the goals, Bily to show consistently why Hiddink recommended him to us, Saha and Yakubu to fight it out to be top scorer and Rodwell to be pushing for a starting place. And that is without any new signings!

The evidence is there that we're getting progressively closer to winning our first silverware under Moyes. In 2008 it was the Carling Cup Semi-Final, last year it was the FA Cup Final, this time round we've claimed the scalps of Chelsea, United and City, as well as snatching a draw from the jaws of victory at the Emirates. If we don't win something next year, then it will be the year after. It's just a question of having that little bit of luck and having the nerve to see it through.

With regards to the RS, there was a classic moment from last weekend's game against Brum on Football Focus today. Gerrard had a look of 'WTF' when Benitez hauled Torres off. The striker didn't look too impressed either. How they've managed to do as well as they have, when they clearly don't have faith in the manager's decisions, I'll never know.

Shocking to see some awful comments aim towards RJ, a respectable old timer here. I agree with his assesment of Liverpool being better, marginally imo. I think the problem lies in our football and buildup, not because we have awful strikers. Yak will be ace if we FEED him well.
