This will ruffle some feathers!!

He definitely hasn't been up to the standards he set over the last 12 months (last half of last season, first half of this) coinciding with a pretty dire run of form for Pienaar.

He was at fault for Spurs' equaliser and Sunderland's winner. I think he is overrated defensively and on crosses; not consistently good enough on either. What he does possess is great stamina, energy, good pace, very good close control and great vision, when him and Pienaar are at their best in tandem, both of them work little triangles on the edge of the area, they don't need to beat a man with skill or whip in a pinpoint cross, they just need invention and good close control and they go from left hand touchline to 6-yard box byline for an easy cutback. I think Pienaar playing badly means Baines is forced to do alot of crosses that he generally tends to overhit. I think the few times we've swapped Mirallas over to left wing of late, Baines has looked better

Defo lost a bit of form. And being hyper-critical we do tend to turn a blind eye to some of his mistakes. He leaves us exposed a lot when he gets forward - occupational hazard maybe, like; he's been slow to get out to a threat from wide and shut it down. A lot has to be down to Pienaar's atrocious form and his foot injury though, and he's still the best LB in the country - complete joke he's still thought of as Ashley Cole's understudy...he surpassed that phoney 18 to 24 months ago.

Yeh, when I say crap. I mean by his usual very high standards. Over the past 6-7weeks he's just become one of the eleven. He hasn't stood out or done anything.

You must be watching him 'sozzled' either that or you're just totally clueless, either way, you're talking out of your hairy hoop.

he is a great attacking back with defensive weaknesses -
playing up high leaves us exposed on our left flank -
his high standard of play at the start of the season has certainly taken a dip -
I also think his consistency with his corners is poor lately -
for the sake of Everton we can only hope he improves again -
but playing every game might just be the root of his slump in form

he just hasn't been up to his usual standard, but he's been carrying an injury since december. was he really needed in games vs cheltenham and oldham? im sure he could easily have had a rest then, oviedo seems more than capable to deputize, especially against that standard of opposition.

The only person clueless must be you if you can't see he's been just another number for weeks.

He's our best player or one of and I'm not the type of person to say, Oh Baines scored a 35 yard free kick at Newcastle 8 weeks ago he's playing well or he's tired. Il look at it how it is, he's not benefited the team for weeks.

All players can be critisized even if they are the better ones. He just hasn't dragged us through the last few of weeks.

He's tired, he's carrying an injury, he's played every minute of every game this season, and get **** all support from Pienaar, I'm not surprised he's a bit below par towards the end of the season.

But he's certainly not the reason we're losing games of football. A below par Baines is at least the equal of anyone else in Blue.

He definitely needs a rest. Would we rather have a 70% fit Baines or a relatively untested Oviedo at left back for the rest of the season though?
