This consistent 'battering' of Everton by foreign media.

Wears Tim Cahill pyjamas
After reading this (Landon Donovan still likely to return to MLS - MLS - ESPN Soccernet) I felt aggrieved on how the foreign media make Everton look like sap of a side who only have one good player in Landon Donovan.

I must agree that Donovan is a top player with alot of things going for him on the pitch but I must also say he is far off some of our best players. Evertons footballing style isn't Gung-Ho (like some of the Yanks would like to see) but instead we go from the back whether it be long ball or short quick passes into feet.

I'd be the first to admit that Landon Donovans loan signing has been another master-class from one of the best managers we've had since the days of Howard Kendall's first spell. He's added a positiveness to our game that can only mean good things for the rest of his loan spell.

I can just hope that if we were to go out and either extend his loan agreement or make the move full time that the foreign media can actually watch the Toffees play and see great things from other players.

Sure he's good.

But Arteta/Peanuts/King Louis/The Fro'/Tiny Tim/Jags/Bainsey are much better.

Bit unfair on Don perhaps?
The guy hasn't come here to be compared to our other players, but if we had to compare, I'd say he was at least on par with our top players, and has done as much for the sport in his home country as any player in the league.

Stuff what the papers say, but let's not put the Don down as he doesn't deserve it.
He's been great since he arrived.(y)

Yes, he has had a big impact on the team. Together with the others increasing form as well. This article is rubbish, i am mostly surprised that they are allowed to write such a lot of s**t, and actually manage to get it printed.

It's ESPN. They know sh*t about football.

you guys really need to understand ESPN...They are not trying to say LD is the best Everton has, its just the only player that the audience they are addressing knows, Most Amercians do not know Saha or any other players, except Howard, but he is a GK: They are only making the article about LD

He is a good player but he isn't anywhere as good a footballer as saha, arteta, fellaini or piennar. He has made a big impact because he is a direct player and likes to run with the ball and use his pace. I mean this in the nicest way but Americans like "soccer" but i don't know if they fully understand football yet!

If it means anything though. LD will be back in LA in a month and this will be all water under the bridge. Its sad I really wanted him to stay with Everton. I am starting to really love this team. I will still foll, but nat as passionate.. He would be a good fit. I have this STRONG feeling though he will be bought by a bigger club that will not use him like Everton is. Its a real shame really.

Don't worry. This article won't make it to print. It's only ESPN's soccer Web site. And only soccer fanatics read that and they know the score. And as others have mentioned, the article is more about Donovan than about Everton.

What the general public knows about Everton is that they beat the MLS All-Stars this past summer - the only team to do so. :)

And that made it to print.

agreen08, you are correct. Most Americians do not know Football, but soccer. Just like your Country doent play baseball, Basketball. Soccer is not as popular in the USA; but thats a diffrent story. However there are some of us from the USA that has caught and and have football fever. Most of my family do not even know who LD is, or even care. I was here through WC 2006 and jumped train to train to see games. My family thought I was crazy doing this to watch soccer. Maybe one day It will be as popular as our Amercian Football, but LD is all we have at the moment. We just want to see him doing well, whether or not you think he is as good as some of the others

If he was "the best thing in the team" we'd do everything to keep him, try and pry him away from his brand new MLS contract. If Donovan thought that aswell, he'd want to move himself or atleast offer himself up to any other prem team being he's put himself in the shop window.

None of this is happening and looks like it wont change. He's been a class player since coming over, want him to stay as he adds what we've missed - pace and width.

But its not gonna happen. And its not down to him being "the best player at Everton" as we'd easily move on if he didnt stay.

As i said i meant no offence by what i said i have lots of friends who live in the states and work as coaches out there. I think he is a very talented player and would love Moyes to buy him on a permenant basis (6 mil max). But i just don't thjink he is at the level of the players i quoted. He has his qualities and we have done well from them. We needed an injection of real pace in our mid-field and he gace us it. I think it was a great bit of buisness by Moyes. If we don't buy him he has shown us what our we needed in the mid-field. When i said i don't think they get football i meant just as you said in my experience of going to the states there jounalism on football isn't great and thats cos there isn't a great call for it as it is way down on the list in american sports. Although there are alot more good players coming out of the states. Altidore looks a bullish talent too.

As mentioned earlier, a lot of "foreign" press will only discuss Everton, and others outside the Sky 4, when there's a local playing. Everton rarely got a run in the news here unless they were playing a "big" club, in their eyes.

Once Cahill got in, well, you can imagine the drivelling when he was in a purple patch in front of goals..."Our Timmy" etc. Even the local league struggles to make an impact in the local press, but they are making inroads. Once they do, the local press will get edumacated, and will probably write articles worth reading...yeah, okay, a bridge too far perhaps...
