Things you have completely wasted money on

I read something recently about how cassettes have become trendy again amongst certain groups of young people.

A mate of mine ( computer geek ) has a room full of old computers, which he buys as future investments, a bit like classic cars.

Even some of the freebies that McDonalds give away are collectible !
I suppose that's true! You can't predict what these millennial hipsters will want to start collecting next, because it's 'vintage'. 🤣🤣

I saw an old Commodore 64 8-bit computer with a whole of bunch of games in mint condition go for $100k on an E-Bay auction a couple of years ago.

Exactly mate... No re-sale value, as you said.

Have you tried watching an old DVD on a 65 inch QLED 4K TV?
It's horrible... You'll go blind!

At least CD's you can still keep for sentimental value, if you're an avid music fan.
Does re-sale value determine a purchase? Just enjoy it while it's enjoyable, when it's not move on.

I don't recall any sage advice telling folk not to waste money owning a vhs as you might be able to stream it in 50 years. At the time it was probably brilliant watching a favourite movie when you wanted to

It depends on the collector, mate... I suppose.

I prefer having a collection of actual books on my shelf, as opposed to a having a Kindle and downloading books, which I guess is the norm now.
Unless you're an actual book collector, as in purchasing old first edition novels, and holding on to them with the intention of selling them at a profit once their value increases. 🤷‍♂️

I have hundreds of tape cassettes taking up much needed cupboard space, which for some reason I can't convince myself to bin. Price of memories.🙄
about 14 years ago I put my entire cassette tape collection up for sale on an Advertisement site not expecting much if any interested buyers
about 4 days later a guy arrived at the house, inspected them and forked over 90% of my asking price
he was a big time collector and the humble cassette was his thing

don't just chuck them away as they are also making solid comeback

Same, I travel heaps for work but still can't bring myself to get a kindle, I don't consider myself a collector per se, but do feel some sort of romantic attachment to reading a physical book itself.

Yeah, I know a few people who did this. Just think of it like this: at their peak around 2000 (ish), you'd be looking at £15 (ish) for just a standard DVD. If you had 100, which was very easy to achieve at the time, you'd be looking at £1500 just for those.

What a waste.

All my cd's ended up at the tip today as well.

In the nuclear war aftermath physical copies will be like gold. Whoever has a working copy of Blade Runner, Terminator and Aliens will rule the world.

I still have a bit of a DVD collection, there were some things I couldn't part with. I used to collect a lot of boxing matches and there was no way they were getting thrown away.

Life insurance..at the moment.
This is true... Specifically, if you have no next of kin, or any beneficiaries on your policy, so if you kick the bucket, there isn't anyone for the insurance company to pay out to.

A cousin of mine got sold on a life policy by a shrewd insurance broker, only to come to the stark realisation 11 months later, after making monthly payments, that he had no beneficiaries to pay out to. 🤣🤣

Phone cases, I always seem to shop on Temu for them cos they’re decent quality, cheap and the only place I can get really geeky or horror themed ones

Problem is cos I change them so much they gather dust in storage boxes making them useless unless I sell them on

All mine went in the bin years back, same with my vinyl, if only I knew 😆

Ive got a son and daughter and keep telling them they should make the payments.

Can't be that great a waste of money if they're from Temu, what are they, £1 each?

Although money is money I suppose.
