A quick scan of my bookshelves, and I see Joseph Heller, Norman Mailler, Noam Chomsky, John Steinbeck, Jack Kerouac, Nassim Nicholas Teleb, Barry Lopez, Raymond Carver, Dave Eggers, Gore Vidal and Wendell Berry. There's more if I could be bothered getting up to look.

Similarly shitloads of music.

Can't think of any American food I'm especially fond of, though I do like my coffee 'Americano.'

Lance Armstrong can kiss my heiny, though.

yes Heller, big fan. Too many films and Albums to mention.

Dylan mentioned most of mine, I would just add Boston, San Francisco, and of course Dylan, Tx Bill and all our other American Blues - Jagler, Maverick, apologies to those whose names escape me.

Special mention to Lincoln, NH and the Berkshires.

Well what a great thread. No bias in that statement at all. I'll give it a shot but I'm sure I'll forget a few things:

1) We now (or at least over the past 10 years) have professional football (soccer) in this country.
2) Baseball
3) The Food (I'm partial to Whataburger and Jack In The Box when it comes to fast food)
4) Freedom of Religion
5) Texas
6) Colorado
7) Satellite TV
8) American comedy (not near as funny as the English but funny nonetheless)
9) The Simpsons

8.)

im not sure thats fair, comedy has to be split into its areas of strength, 'stand up' 'film' 'series' 'radio' 'comic'

if i had to pick a stand up comedian or comedienne i would most probably go to see chris rock, the latter greats are gone, so he'll have to do.

bigger and blacker
bring the pain
never scared (the weakest of the three!!!)

all very good, hicks

''revelations'' ... is majesty!

old steve martin stuff, chevie chase stuff, eddie murphy, prior. its a back cataclogue that is the foundation and the then cutting edge that led to modern day stand up comedy.

oh, gervais is not great, in fact, hes a bit [Poor language removed].
