I'll be the first to admit that there are too many confusing and arbitrary rules in baseball and American football, but having not been raised on Cricket, so I'm completely lost. I feel as if I would better enjoy the sport if I had any idea what was going on, so I go to the GOT community, people I can trust not to make a farce of this thread, and perhaps to point me in the right direction.

Christ, I dunno where to start mate, there's that many rules!

What's going on now is called a Test match, 5 day game. Each teams gets 2 innings each (11 players all get a bat). Most runs wins, providing you get everybody out in both innings. If not, it's a draw.
So at the moment, England are doing quite well!

Which is the most confusing bit? How they score runs, how they get out etc?

I had a similar conversation with an American today.

We concluded that it's like ace baseball where a batter can bat for two days, he couldn't get his head round this. A five day test is so long yet so delicately poised. Cricket is about fine margins when it seems anything but.

I tried looking it up on Wikipedia, which is usually good for these things, but I still couldnt figure it out.

I see a score with punctuation in it (like 371/5), and it blows my mind. I think the best course of action is watching cricket until I can figure it out.

V/Capt is right . START with 6 balls in an over , then change ends .Each man usually will bat , but NO last man standing . A sub can field but NOT bat / bowl .

Do THAT , come back to me .

Cricket - a sport so boring, people wear footy shirts to support them, and get drunk to watch.

371 runs for batting side . 5 wickets down .
Bowling , eg ; 22-1-7-3 .... 22 overs , 1 maiden - NO RUNS in a specific over ; 7 runs off HIS bowling generally ; 3 wickets - getting people out .

Run outs do NOT count as a Bowlers wicket but DOES for the team . ;
