2025/26 Thierno Barry

Fans are understandably desperate to see something in him, but once again the quality simply wasn't there yesterday. He got a round of applause for effort, but for me it was just in pity for yet another toothless display. Couldn't stay onside, once again didn't have a single shot on goal, didn't in any way trouble their defence. This is a £30 million pounds striker on display. He'll be kept until next summer, and he needs to improve tenfold to be anywhere near good enough to be backup next season.

We should persevere with Barry him for now I’m not completely writing him off , we have seen betos absolute max potential we should try an get rid of him in jan and bring someone else in ideally
Fully agree. While both imo are crap, Barry at least have time to improve given his age. Like you say, we've seen Beto's limit and there will not be improvement from him. Barry has to continue and get more confidence. He's new to the squad, will settle in more and let's see. We obviously still need another, better striker than both of them asap, regardless of whether Barry eventually comes good. It's criminal in the first place that we went into a season with a mere two strikers in the entire squad and seemingly nobody from the u23s worthy of even getting on the bench.

He'll score buckets of goals. In 12 months we'll wonder how we even had a debate whether or not he was better than Beto.
What are you seeing that suggests that? I'd understand if he was testing the goalkeeper and looking like he could create moments of magic, but, well, there might as well not have been a goalkeeper in any of the games he's participated in so far.

On the latter, I guess ti wouldn't be hard to look better than Beto, but I personally think right now they're round about the same - garbage, albeit one has potential to improve.

Dunno, it's a bit early to be making that sort of prediction but as a minimum I want a striker who can hold the ball up, bring other players into play, run channels and get us up the pitch.

There was a lot of stuff Barry did yesterday which was promising and far in excess of what you ever get from Beto.

Keep playing him. He needs confidence and there's at least something there to work with.

I predict that he’ll struggle all season, then come on as a second half substitute in our FA Cup Semi Final and score two goals to get us to the Final, unlocking his confidence and turning in to a goal machine.

Agree with the post our striking pool of talent is shocking but worth noting Barry is 23, Beto is 27.

The lad had a decent game today. Worked hard, linked up play well.
There is a player, in there.
I think as his confidence grows he will get goals.
At the end of the day, the lad is 22, playing in a new country and adjusting to the physicality of the Premier League.
The type of player, years ago, you would have taken a chance on from the lower league.
Not his fault that he is living in an era of a vastly inflated transfer market.
He's moved to a league where defenders are hard, brutal, with streetwise quality. Doesnt know what's hit him. Has'nt got the natural ability and awareness to adapt. Luckily he did'nt cost us £74m like Sesko at Utd who's got the same problem.
