2025/26 Thierno Barry

What we've paid for him is peanuts for a forward but still significant for us.

He needs regular minutes without starting and he will get them as we have no options.

Needs support from everyone - teammates and manager/staff.

A goal sometime soon would do him the world of good. He needs to support himself too though - the sullen, frustrated look won't help him. He is in a privileged position earning big money.

Brentford paid the same amount for Thiago, same age, and he's scored 5 goals already this season. Bought after a great season for Club Bruges.

We got Barry, who is Beto mark 2.

I was thinking more about this when playing fifa last night and realising past talents that have started to blossom elsewhere since leaving us..

Moise Kean
Ademola Lookman

Both great young talents that came here but didn't get rated by managers or given a bit of patience. Most likely both worth alot of money now too.

Barry needs patience, and minutes. He is a better footballer than Beto, so we simply must support him and back him. I believe he has the right qualities to succeed, and has shown glimpses of good all round play, just needs to put one in the back of the net and build on understandings with team mates.

No point buying great young talent if we won't let them develop here and then become a success only once they move away..

I am seeing this revisionism a lot these days.

It's missing a massive amount of context and implies that both Lookman and Kean left Everton and became world beaters after other clubs gave them space to develop.

But what actually happened to them both after Everton?

It took Lookman 5 years after leaving us to get his move Atalanta where he started to shine in a very specialized second striker role most teams don't use. Recall that after leaving us for Leipzig he was bounced out on loan to Leicester and Fulham because he wasn't making an impression.

Kean returned back to Juventus and didn't make the cut there and wasn't impressing before he made the move to Fiorentina at a bargain price and things finally started to click for him.

The players they are now at 27-28 is not who they were when we signed them as promising 19 year olds. Let's stop pretending like other teams immediately recognized some undeveloped greatness in them. They failed to make an impression at the next clubs they were at after Everton until finally finding a team that fits them, and these are not even the top of Serie A but the Everton's of that league.

Did we have another five years to waste on them not wanting to be here and put the work in? No, selling them was always the right decision.

The fact of the matter is we don't have the grace to wait five years for a 19-20 year old to look useful.

That's why people will begin to get on Barry's back if he doesn't score one soon. He's 22 which, while young, isn't exactly spring chicken age like a Lookman or Kean were.

He needs to start delivering a bit. We can't give him two years to come good when our only other option is Beto.

Other clubs like Brighton and Bmouth because of good planning have a lot of such signings and either bench or loan them out for a season. Barry has to develop in plain sight and theres no guarantee by next season he makes it. Its the heading for me..everything else is passable. The job of improving our squad in a PSR age of gambles vs proven players is fraught with risk. Potentially we could play Jack as a 10 to help / no idea if it would work

Good luck to him but for me he's just another Cenk Tosun. We need a Lineker. Poacher, sniffer, job done.
Defo has alot more to his game than a tosun, can see alot of his movement when going the game. Cant defend him for the wolves games because he let them being agresssive get to him. Have said here before still fell we have a player in him just need that goal and get that link up with the mid and he will get the goals

They bought Igor Thiago last year and he was injured the majority of the season when he did play it was for 8 games and he didn't score a single goal. So he's had some time to settle in , you would of been calling him a dud if he had his injury rudden first season here instead at Brentford.

Also there's clear distinctions between Barry's composure on the ball and movements compared to Beto , technically he's far superior once again he just needs time before he can be properly assessed

I'll say it again hes not actually had one clear cut opportunity. One against Roma in pre-season which he scuffed but other than that weve not actually seen his finishing inftont of goal
He needs game time and for Illy and Grealish to put a few gilt edged chances his way, once he gets the first goal the pressure is off and we can see what he's made of.

I personally think people are 'seeing' things in Barry because they're desperate to convince themselves he's not yet another failed expensive signing. His body language on the field is awful and he's done absolutely nothing at all as an Everton player yet.

He was not at all what we needed when the only other alternative was Beto. If you have one terrible striker, you do not bring in a youngster in exactly the same mould with no experience in the league and pin all your hopes on him.

One thing I'll agree on is he needs time. He's here now so we can't change that, Beto is bad enough so might as well give Barry a run until Christmas imo and see what he can do.

Hopefully he makes me eat my words, but I'll still maintain it was the wrong transfer to make with £30m plus available for a striker.
