2025/26 Thierno Barry

True but he is a player who has been rated for a while but I do agree with your point, and that also applies to Barry or anyone else for that matter. I have no doubt Moyes has probably turned a number of players down, it's no secret how fussy he can be in the market, every blue knows that.
Exactly. Its easy blaming scouts and director of footballs but we've learnt that both Moyes and Dyche have vetoed lots of potential signings not to mention it was Lampard who wanted Maupay even though the fan base gave Thelwell stick for that signing

I think he done a Beto on Tuusday and completely played himself out of the side for Monday.

You have to show a little something at some point, make your own luck when its not happening. He showed very very little. He had one chance after a nice move when he cut inside the left of the box and hit it straight at a defender. Never looked like he was a) going to get a decent shot away or b) find a teammate.

Early days but I'm surprised how poor he is competing for aerial balls considering his size.

Really feel sorry for the lad, he's not a lone striker and never will be. His signing highlights the mess out "recruitment department" is.

I disagree. I think he can be when he's played with the right options. When we have Grealish and Ndiaye around him he's a lot better and he shows that he can link up play and operate by himself there. He just needs a bit of help.

One thing that has frustrated me with Moyes so far is his use of Beto and Barry. He's not giving either a chance to get a run under their belt. As soon as one looks poor he drops them rather than working through that frustration.

I think an argument can be made that we should have got in another striker who was more experienced and capable of not needing that guidance and help but we didn't so Moyes needs to cater to that.

This. He doesn’t even challenge for the ball a lot of the time. It’s very strange, particularly as that’s one of the main things Moyes looks for in a striker.

Moyes can't manage strikers, never could

What’s worrying is that we spent nearly £80m of our budget on 3 players who aren’t ready.

We've gambled in the sense of believing the potential of those players is better than the players that may have been on the market and willing to join Everton who were 'ready'. It's very early in the season still. The other side of Jan is a better time to assess if it's been money well spent.

Never is a strong word, there is one exception I can think of and that is Yakubu. If not for the injury we would have had a proper goalscorer for a lot longer than we did. That was the perfect storm, in terms of a natural finisher and players around him that can assist in the goal burden, and be creative for him.

It is easier said than done but I see this midfield as a similar ilk to the one that played with Yakubu, so if we can just get one of these with a bit of confidence in front of goal then we will have a decent front line.

Beto has shown that he can score, Barry is yet to show that instinct but I think at times his all round play has been of a level to engage a tiny bit of optimism, at least.
